We adopted both our cats. Our first cat (who was 1.5 yrs old at the time) was an easy decision to make. We walked into a 'cat room' that had about 20 cats in the room total. We tried spending time with every cat there, but there were quite a lot that we easily rejected. We chose our cat because the entire time we were there he just sat by our feet, like he was waiting for us to take him home. He is a mush and we took him home a week later.

For our second cat we were looking at getting an older cat as well, just to match the age of our first cat, and not get a kitten. We look around the adoption place and didn't connect with any of the cats there. As we were in our car driving away, I thought I saw another area to the adoption place we didn't look at yet. So I made DH turn around and we went back. Turns out it was the area they kept the kittens. We decided that even though that is not what we were going for, it might work out better getting a younger kitten who can adapt to our older cat ways. Now they are two peas in a pod.

My first kittie, Bella, found me! I was walking home from a house party my senior year of college, and a cat followed me and a friend home. She was a well taken care of, so I figured she was someone's pet. No one responded to my flyers & the local shelter couldn't help me find her owner, so after a month she became mine! I had her spayed and microchipped. She passed away from cancer in 2009.

Our second cat, maya, we got from a rescue shelter. She's my husbands cat, and he picked her out in 2008 as a companion after he had his accident. The three of us clicked instantly & we just knew!

Maya was visibly upset after Bella died, and after a few months we adopted Bailey. We've had her since 2009.

Our cat it took about 5 minutes. I walked into animal control, picked him up, and they had him boxed and ready to go before I knew what was happening. :)

We looked for about 2 months for our dog. We wanted a rescue and one of a few breeds. We also wanted a puppy to get along with the aforementioned cat. We also had to look at a rescue that didn't do home inspections because we were in the process of getting a new fence when we got her. We drove about 3.5 hours to get her.

Good luck on finding your new dog!!

It didn't take us long to find our dog but we had to wait and cross our fingers she would still be available when we were able to bring her home. We knew we wanted to work with a particular rescue group in our area (connected loosely with our vet and we had fostered a mama cat and her two kittens for them before) so we just casually looked at their adoptable dogs pages once we decided we were going to bring a dog into our family.
I saw our girl's profile in January when we knew we couldn't bring a dog to our home until August (when our roommate was moving out). She sounded so perfect for us, and while it made me sad that no one else wanted to scoop her up right away I was so glad she was still up for adoption in July when we contacted the director to start the process.
We met her once, decided she was as awesome as she sounded online and claimed her as ours.

One of my cats was adopted for me as a gift (I had said I wanted an all-black kitten), and the other we adopted from a group of feral cats that lived in the yard area behind the laboratory where I work. We are all 'cat people' at my job so we worked to trap and fix the cats, vaccinate them, feed them and keep them current on flea meds. They returned the favor with snuggles. After a few years the lab moved to a new building and we all picked a cat (or two) to adopt from the group.

We spent a long time looking for dog #1... were lined up to adopt a pomeranian directly from the previous owner and it fell through. I was heartbroken, so we started searching and found our Dory that night at like 3am surfing the web.

Since we ended up purchasing her from a hobby breeder, I definitely wanted our second dog to be an adoption. It took 2 years and MANY ignored and rejected applications (we lived in a dog friendly apartment with a fenced dog run in the back, but most agencies around our city require you to own a home with a fenced in yard) but we finally stumbled upon a lady who had taken in 2 chihuahuas who ended up having a litter of puppies. We were the first to see them and literally had the "pick of the litter", and we had our Remy!

Not a long time for past pets, sometimes they even found us

This time is taking a little longer because I'm being super picky. I want a pure bred Bengal kitten, they're so pretty and have a personality like a dog. I love them! They're really expensive though ($500-$1200) for a registered one. I'd like to be able to breed it once and give a kitten to my Mom.
I did find a lady who has 3 left that will be available in August ( I may be crazy, that's when our baby is due!) and I'm hoping I responded in time and didn't lose my place! I've been looking on and off since January.

How fun!

I found my tabby cat in a pet store when she was an itty bitty kitty. We clicked right then and there and I brought her right home.

DH had the dogs before me, but for both he purposely sought out their breeds from good breeders. One is a lab, the other a white golden retriever, and he wanted to make sure he had good pure bred dogs.

With Zeus, DH went to the pound on the way home from work one day and decided to get a kitten, thinking it would be *his* cat. Zeus had another plan, and he's *my* baby, lol.

DH found our old dog when he wasn't even looking for one. We didn't know each other yet. There was a rescue group outside of the store so he went to go see the puppies, and fell in love and took him home that day.

We've been looking for a new dog for just a week now. We have a few in mind..... tonight we'll be driving 1 1/2 hours to a rescue group to look at one. She's a little younger then we'd like.... but hoping she's calm enough so we can come home with a dog tonight :)
