DS had his first day yesterday and his naps progressed from 10 min to 20 min to 30 min. He's in the infant room and they have the cribs in a quiet, darkened area of the room with white noise. His teachers explained that he was waking up to the sounds and felt confident he'd adjust. Fingers crossed the naps get better for you too!

He is in the "older infant" room so they are suppose to have quiet time BUT if one of them are tired then they will put him/her down to sleep. I also think he may be waking up after his first cycle and then just stays up. He gets 30-40 minutes in. He moves to the toddler room at 16 months so 3 more months! He's sooo cranky and practically crazy when he gets home! I'm going to reevaluate at the end of this week. My dh is pretty upset at the school because they always check off that he's happy!

She napped terribly from 12 weeks to 8 months. Then she moved to the older infant room and figured it out.

@edelweiss: Will cross my fingers for you. I was shocked how easily the nap transition went. It's made things much better for all of us - he's actually happy when he gets home at night, instead of the exhausted meltdowns we were getting when he was in the infant room!

@SeptMomma12: that's where we are right now--feeling really happy if he manages two short naps a day. last week he had 2 days where he did not nap at all. argh. glad to hear that it got better in the toddler room and hope it's the same for my LO!

@crunch: What room is you LO in? Usually in the toddler room, they all nap at the same time. My LO did not nap well until he got moved to the toddler room. There was too much happening in the infant room, and they all napped at different times.

They don't have a set nap schedule in the toddler room? That seems kinda strange.

My LO napped horribly in the infant room where each baby kept his/her own schedule and the lights were on - was lucky to get two 30 min naps all day. But as soon as he moved to the toddler room where they all nap together at 12:30pm (lights out, shades down, soft music), they have been having to wake him at 3pm when nap time is over.

LO has been in the infant room for almost 5 months and hardly ever naps--contrast this to weekends, where he gets around 3-4 hours of naps each day. i'm holding out for the toddler room, where they turn lights off and play soft music.

i'm also surprised that the daycare doesn't create a quiet environment for naptime! i think giving it a few more weeks is a good idea, but man, i empathize with how stressful it is!

I think it's strange that they don't have a schedule where they all nap together. DD never slept well/at all until 11 months old, when they put her in the toddler room, where they had a schedule of when they would all sleep. The lights were turned off and they all slept on their cots. So it seems your LO might need something like that (I can't imagine LO to sleep with the lights still on)

My daughter napped from the get-go, but she still always naps better at home than at daycare. Why doesn't your daycare turn off the lights during nap? Ours turns off the lights, pulls down blackening shades, and turns out loud music / white noise. It works as well as it can, for a group of 10 toddlers.

So we recently had to switch daycares because we moved. LO use to be at a home daycare and had his own separate room to nap in. He's 13 months and would nap 2-3 hours. Now he's at a preschool/daycare and has to sleep (or not sleep) in a room with other kids where the light may or may not be off. He's been there a week and has napped at most 30 minutes. It has been stressing me out that he doesn't sleep because my damn life revolves around this kid's sleep and now I feel like I have no control over it. Last Thursday night he woke up in the middle of the night and then couldn't fall back asleep so he was screaming but not really crying. I felt so bad! I've been telling myself to give it at least 2 weeks before I try to find another daycare/solution but I'm not sure if that's realistic enough. I'm usually on the "kids adapt" wagon but this is so damn hard when I've spent his whole first year making sure he got his sleep. Anyway, I just wanted to hear from other bees' experiences. If your LO goes to a daycare, how long did it take for them to adjust and have a decent nap? Adding a poll because why the heck not :)
