My daughters’ birthdays are 3 days apart. Literally the day after their first joint party (turning ages 2 and 4) my oldest told me she wanted her own party going forward. So that was that and this year, they had seperate parties on back to back Saturdays.

My brother and I have b-days 4 days apart in August, right before school started. When we were little kids, my parents threw one big party for the kids/family, it was usually outside with only cake served. We did this until we were about 9/7 which was the end of elementary school and when we started drifting away from playing with the same neighborhood kids.

So around 9/7 we started having separate bday parties which was always a sleepover, we could invite 2-3 other kids, pick a movie, order pizza and make sundaes. It was often back to back weekends because that typically when our birthdays hit on the calendar.

When we split off into separate sleepover birthdays, we still would have a combined family dinner for the grandparents, uncles, family friends etc (we were the only kids on both sides and first kids of my parents friends, so we had a large 'extended family'). So even to this day, I often feel strange celebrating my birthday alone, even though I'm not close to my brother any more!

So combine the parties as long as you want :)

I had a combined birthday with my older brother when we were in 6th and 8th grade and it was the party of the decade at our little middle school, lol. My parents rented out the local country club, so we had the pool and sports courts to ourselves for a 4 hours time period, so we invited about 200 kids between us (and their parents) and had a blast.

SO...you could combine parties for a long while! Other years, we had combined events where my brother would get to pick a couple of friends and I would pick a couple of friends and we would do a fun night like bowling and pizza, or my mom would take us all to Six Flags or something.

@DesertDreams88: your son shares a bday with me!

My kids are far apart (dec and July) but growing up my sister and I had joint bday parties for a few years. Once we were old enough to have our own friends we would have our own small friend party and then a combined family party in between the bdays (but we had a lot of aunts and uncles within an hour or so away). But now that I think about it, that makes 3 parties for my mom to deal with...

My older two (girl and boy) have bdays 11 days apart. We did a joint 5/2 party that was paw patrol themed. The next year we did just a party for 6th bday, because we were past the playplace type bday and did a jewelry making party. We’re also aiming not to have big parties for everyone every year and hoping to stagger it.

My daughters have birthdays two weeks apart. They asked for separate parties this year (6 & 4). They had very different and specific hopes for what they each wanted. Plus with the older in kinder this year, she had friends she wanted to invite who wouldn’t know her sister at all, and I didn’t want their parents to feel obligated to buy two gifts nor for DD2 to feel like she had fewer guests of her own, which she would have both had and noticed. All that said, I may encourage them to have joint ones again down the road. I also don’t think kids have to have a big party each year, so we’ll just see!

My nieces (Irish twins) finally asked to not have a joint party next year because "they're too old for that". They just turned 8 & 9.

On the other hand my best friend growing up had a joint party with her younger by 3 years sister every year. They would have separate sleepovers, but they had joint parties at the bowling alley or pool or whatever.

My son will be 3 Jan 27 and my daughter turns 1 on Feb 16 so we're doing their first combo party, Feb 2. I plan to do combo parties as long as they'll let me! How long do you think that will be? How'd it work out with your kids? Any suggestions for unisex themes? (gender stereotypes aside, I just have lot of conservative friends & family)
