I started pumping immediately (she was in NICU and refused to take the breast) and I kept a very open mind about how long I would try for. We made it 7 weeks before switching to formula due to stomach issues. I was ready though, I hated seeing my daughter in pain and I hated pumping (it was always painful for me to pump no matter what adjustments I made.)

We EBF for almost 4 months. When I went back to work I couldn't keep up so we did formula at daycare and BF at home. Now at 9.5 months we mostly do formula. He still BF at night but I'm having a hard time getting him to BF during the day if I'm home. I'm happy with how long we made it. And I do have a small freezer stash to go through still.

Still nursing frequently at 16 months. These days I'm torn between loving it and wanting to continue forever, and being desperate to get my body and fertility back. Nursing is making me gain weight, and I'm sick of it. I'd also really like to conceive again. Torn.

We made until 2.5 months, at which point I realized my supply just could not keep up. Original goal was 6 months.

I have thought a lot about the next baby, which at this point I'm thinking is probably two years away or so. I really, really want nursing to work next time, but if I have the same issues I'm not going to freak out as much since I have seen how well my 7 month old is doing with formula. But, if I could have my wish I would again go w/ the 6 month goal and then see how I'm feeling/how baby is doing at that point.

We have made it 6.5 weeks so far which I am super proud of because it has been so hard. I would like to make it at least 6 months and if my milk supply can sustain 1-3 nursing sessions a day i would be willing to do that until a year old. But 6 months will give me a lot of happiness and satisfaction.

Been nursing my 21 month old 2x a day before nap and sleep time.
Yay tandem nursing!

I plan on going for just a year with DS. Possibly longer since I'm pumping a lot more this time around

8 months and still hanging in there! I've loved nursing, but recently I've started to feel "over it." My goal is 1 year, but I may cut out a feeding at 9 months. Then she would nurse 2-3 times a day and get one bottle of pumped milk.

I nursed FOREVER as a baby/kid, and more or less planned on doing the same with my own. (I was sick all the time and my mom figured it was the best thing she could do for me....so I nursed for years...) But having twins and a low supply to boot made it impossible for me to primarily BF. However, I do nurse both kids a few times a day and will keep doing it as long as long as I have milk. My supply has taken a big hit with DD getting teeth though (nursing strike and biting). It may not be much quantity, but I'd love to make it to a year, just to keep passing those antibodies and such. We're at almost 6 months now. Once I hit 6 months, I may stop pumping and just let it be what it is.

I made it to 6 weeks on the boob but we had lots of problems and it wasn't healthy emotionally for me so I switched to pumping. I had planned to make it to 6 months but then my son was diagnosed with MSPI so I only made it to 4 months.

We made it to 11 months. DS isn't much of a drinker, only takes 2/3oz at a time even now at just over a year old. I went back to work at 7 weeks PP and it was a challenge in the beginning. We hit our stride but at 9 months he was really enthusiastic about food and didn't care to nurse much. By 11 months he was completely over it. It's a struggle now to get him to drink but at least I know he's getting nutrition from food. I would have loved to nurse beyond a year!

@LittleK: I hear ya. I had to pump early to help establish my supply, and I still don't pump enough to cover all of her daytime feeds (every once in a blue moon I do, but she usually gets 1 formula feed a day). And the small freezer stash that I did have--and worked so frickin hard for!--had to be thrown out when I found out I had thrush. Even after all that, it still makes me tear up to think about weaning. I love nursing my LO, too.

I am almost at 10 months and plan to go to 1 year. At 1 year I wouldn't mind dropping to 2 or 3 sessions and see how that goes. I am not sure how long I will last though because we are talking about TTC #2 soon. I have a freezer stash too that can get used up.

Originally I'd planned on a year too, but I also didn't realize how much work it would be and how it would bother me that my body is STILL not my own.

I'm at 3 months now and want to make it to 6 months. I think it's doable, but it's just my first week back to work. It's a lot of juggling... but it's not too bad yet. Originally I had planned on one year, but I don't think I understood just how much you have to give up of your body to make it work, especially if you're a WOHM (not that it's not also hard when you're WAHM or SAHM).
