Around 3 months it is still nice to have but not necessary and at 6 months it is almost more trouble than it is worth.

I used it for the first 3-4 months or so. It was more comfortable for those long nursing sessions.

I used it until we quit nursing at 18 months, but by 3-4 weeks I could do without it if we were out and about. The first couple weeks, I tried to find chairs with arms or used my diaper bag to support my arm while nursing.

I wasn't able to nurse with a pillow for a long time, probably 6 months or so. I purchased a travel nursing pillow and kept it in the car all the time. If I happened to be out somewhere without it, I would "fashion" a pillow out using a combination of diaper bag and receiving blankets.

I used it the whole 15 months I nursed E, but like others said, once you get more comfortable (probably a few weeks) you can nurse without it. It just always was more comfortable for me to use it.

Only a couple of months with DD1, but even then, I didn't rely on it per se. We were out and about, feeding her in public, within a week of giving birth, and I had no issues with feeding her without it. With DD2, I never used the boppy - it became a floor cushion for DD1 instead!

This sounds nuts but we still use it at 28 months! It just became part of our routine and she goes and gets it if she wants to nurse. I feel like even though we don't need it for positioning it helps keep a wiggly toddler in place. When she was little I got an inflatable travel version of my breast friend - that was a lifesaver for traveling.

I used a Brest Friend, but within a few weeks I could nurse without it, if we were out, I just preferred to use it. I used it at home until we weaned at 20 months! It was part of our evening routine- c would go over and get her pillow when it was time to nurse. :)

I used the boppy all 14 months I nursed Xander and have been using it for 6 months with Logan so far. But I could nurse without it, so whenever we go out, I don't bring it. Once you've mastered getting your LO to latch, you won't need the boppy, I think.

I can nurse without it but the bigger she gets the more I actually like using a nursing pillow so she's not too heavy.

@MrsBrewer: Welcome to the other side momma! I'm the opposite in that I hate using the Boppy. I find it unwieldy, and it gets in the way! I've been using the football position the whole time, and sometimes lean back and use my knee/thigh for more support if that makes sense.

@MrsBrewer: Congrats! Hope you & baby are adjusting well! :happy: I'm only 10 days into it, myself, but am finding that while the boppy is really helpful, that I've found several different ways to nurse without it if I'm not in dd's nursery. Like @regberadaisy: said, I definitely have used the boppy to corral baby during after feeding cuddle sessions, etc, too, but have used just a standard pillow or couch cushion, etc when elsewhere.

@MrsBrewer: I never used one with my second. She's been a very efficient eater all her life though so feeds don't take long with her. I just held her in cradle or cross cradle position.

@MrsBrewer: congrats on your baby!!!

The boppy makes it easier for sure but I could nurse without it. But I used it a ton in the beginning especially at night when I was afraid I would fall asleep.

I have a 4 day old and I don't know if I would be able to nurse without it right now! Which sucks if we go out anywhere. How long until you were able to breastfeed in a position without it?
