I took it for over a year after LO 2 was born. My supply always went down a bit around the start of my period but that happens even when I am not on bcp. I was able to pump for 14 months and nurse for 17 months!

@Aria: I haven't heard that either. I will definitely bring it up to my PCP when I see her for my well visit in a few weeks though. I would prefer to continue taking it if possible.

@kiddosc: I guess because it's less effective once you're not EBF, but I've never heard anyone else worry about that before.

@Adira: I looked at the information packet for mine and it doesn't say anything about breastfeeding making it more effective either, so I'm confused.

I took it with DS until I decided to stop taking it when he was 1 yr (any quickly got pregnant). I've been back on it since DD was 6 weeks (she's 10.5 months) and I had planned to keep taking it until she's weaned, then I guess I will have to figure something else out.

Hmm... my doctor gave me a year prescription so I'm still taking it at 9 months postpartum... the little pamphlet that comes with it doesn't say anything about needing to breastfeed to make it more effective... (though I distinctly remember having this conversation after my first, so I'm wondering if there's some DIFFERENT mini pill that I'm on this time around...)

I didn't take the mini pill, but just curious why your doctor is encouraging you to switch?
I had the Mirena, which is also progesterone only and didn't impact supply.

I've been taking the mini pill since 6 weeks pp, and now my LO is almost 7 months. I went to get a refill but my doctor is urging me to use a different method of birth control now that she's starting solids. We're still nursing 5-6 times a day and I'm worried that switching to something else will affect my supply. I'd like to continue breastfeeding until she's at least a year old.

When did you stop taking the mini pill, and if you switched before you were done breastfeeding, did it affect your supply?
