T is 19 months but only has size 4 feet. I like the Carter's early walkers shoes they are not the best quality but I can usually get them for $17 on sale. We still have a couple pairs of soft soles. I also get stride rites on eBay.

I switched as soon as they fit into size four. My girls all walked early with tiny feet in the fall. Soft soles are a joke on wet leaves and very few brands carry anything suitable until at least size four.
We've ruined a lot of robeez.

I switched to sneakers when he was a steady walker because of weather (it was wet and cold) and daycare (they wanted sneakers for outdoor play).

We never bothered with soft soles. She went straight to regular sneakers and did just fine.

I bought some shoes at target and just kept her in them at home for a couple days and she got used to walking in firmer soles. My biggest problem was fit because she was an early walker and had these adorable fat feet!

My wee guy has been walking for almost eight months and still occasionally wears his soft soles, I believe it's recommended that babies / toddlers wear them for as long as possible.

I think at Stride Rite they told us when he was Abe to run he didn't need soft soles any more.

I used predominantly soft soles until 19/20 months. During the winter I still used them but if she'd be walking outside I'd use see Kai Run or something similar, if we were going on a playdate, to the library, museum etc where we'd be inside and I'd carry her in anyway I'd still use the soft. I really loved those shoes though (aesthetically.)

I kept her in a soft-ER sole at daycare till end of the season for boots, but she was in stride rite boots and sneakers otherwise like a month or so into walking.

We actually never used soft soled shoes. He started walking at 10 months but we still sent him to daycare in just socks. At home he would wear normal shoes if we went somewhere. After a couple months and when he moved to the toddler room we just went with regular shoes.

DD has been walking for 4 months. Half of her shoes have flexible soles and the others don't. I don't worry about it because the time she spend wearing shoes vs the time she spends barefoot is pretty small.

We're in the same boat, so I'm curious about this too - DS is just growing out of his first walking shoes (he turned 15 mo yesterday) and I'm not sure whether to buy hard sole shoes for winter or stick with the usual.

I try to keep DS in flat, flexible, wide shoes always. He's almost 2 and had a pair of awesome Stride Rites when he was first walking. Some of the 'new walker' type or toddler shoes don't go beyond size 6 so I was forced to get something different. Flat and flimsy are best for kids at any age as it lets the foot develop naturally and helps them gain feedback from the ground for balance and foot strength. Boots are naturally clunkier, but all other shoes for him are soft.

My 14 month old has been solidly and exclusively walking for 2 months. She's growing out of her soft soled shoes and I'm debating if we need to buy more soft soles. What did you all do? Did colder weather play any part in your decision?
