I haven't figured out my cycle yet after my 24 week loss in July but I'm ready to start again. I'm pretty sure we are ready for the idea of it but I'm nervous about how I will feel to be pregnant again.

I thought we would try right away but my cycle was abnormal for months and months. We didn't prevent and I didn't get pregnant. We said by summer we would actively try but I didn't feel ready anymore. By the time summer came, I pushed TTC to until after my youngest turns 3. I'm on Mirena now.

@littlecasita1122: I had my double rainbow baby the day after anniversary of my son's death (also at 23 weeks). It was hard to deal with at first, but I'm glad their birthdays are only one day apart. It feels like he's looking out for his little sister. Congrats on your pregnancy!

ETA- I also used a different hospital and provider.

@littlecasita1122: I ended up changing doctors and hospitals after our 24 week loss so that I wouldn't have to go back there.

@littlecasita1122: congratulations on your rainbow pregnancy! As sad as it is, after losing a baby, you can fill the calendar with dates of anniversaries (finding out pregnant, sonograms, finding out bad news, date of death, due date) so I tend to agree there's really no ideal due date with a subsequent pregnancy.

We waited two months after a 23 week loss (I was advised by my doctor I only needed to wait one cycle). I got pregnant after the second cycle of trying. My due date is 4 days after the anniversary of my daughter's death - at first I was terrified for this and thinking how awful it will be going back to the hospital again and all those painful memories. But my husband truly thinks it's a positive sign so I'm trying to be more on board with that thought. And my therapist has reminded me numerous times that it will bring a roller coaster of emotions no matter what time of the year I'm due.

@MaryM: I'm glad that that door is open for you. In some ways it is comforting for me to know that there's no known reason for my losses (and obviously having 2 healthy living kids helps) but now that I'm 36 I'm concerned that other problems will unfold; being a member of so many loss boards, now I know just about everything that can go wrong.

@winniebee: Thanks.

DH admitted this weekend that if we hadn't switched doctors to one who pushed for NIPT and NT tests (and if we didn't know what caused our last loss), he would be throwing in the towel and we'd be discussing not trying again. So I can see how it's hard after multiple losses (thankfully knowing it was a fluke is saving us from having to have that conversation)

I don't remember how long we waited after our first (early) loss, but it took 18 months to conceive.

After Virginia died (in Sept), it took some time. It was probably November or December before my cycles were normal. Then I met with a NaPro doctor in January to start testing hormones and figuring out what was up with my body. We started meds in April and May and since we were spending so much money on meds, started trying then as well. Was pregnant June 1 (conceived on May cycle).

Our girls ended up with EDDs one month apart. I can't say that didn't make things harder when I found out I was pregnant. But then again, I'm not sure it would have been easier if they weren't so close.

This time, I think because we know why we lost Franny and that it doesn't seem to be linked to any IF/Loss issues, we're not as emotional about trying again. We certainly aren't trying yet, but we've been able to be intimate without being completely freaked out that sex=death (it was really hard after Virginia)

It will probably be more than two months before I start working with my NaPro doctor again because my cycle has to normalize so I can identify peak/O to get the right testing done.

I haven't had a pregnancy loss, but my son passed away from a fluke virus when he was almost six weeks old.
We ttc almost immediately, because it felt right to us. We planned on having another soon after my son was born, so we didn't change our plans. I know he wants us to make him brothers and sisters and to be happy, and we are in no way replacing him, so I felt good about the decision.
That said, you need to do what's right for you. With your loss history, I can understand your hesitation.

I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks followed by a stillbirth at 23 weeks. I accidentally got pregnant 4 months after my son died, and it felt VERY early. She was actually born the day after his birthday. I honestly don't think I would ever have been "ready".

I don't know if mine were late (10 weeks and 12 weeks) but we were told to wait one cycle before TTC again, and that's what we did both times.

Our 12 week loss was followed almost directly by a chemical and at that point though, I kind of lost it. We decided to take a 3 month break to reassess and I needed it. I might have considered waiting longer to TTC again actually, but we had an oops and I got pregnant while we were preventing. In retrospect, I'm glad it happened that way because TTC had started making me really anxious.

I think it depends on the person.

While I did not experience a later-term loss, I had a cousin who lost their daughter at 24 weeks. They somehow adopted a baby girl less than 4 months later.

I know this is a really personal question, I'm just curious. If you had a later first trimester (or beyond) pregnancy loss, how long did you wait to try again? Was it based on doctor's recommendations or your own feelings?

We lost our third son at 18.5 weeks and it's been just over 3 months and I am not ready to try again. I'm not sure if we will try again, but we are at least considering it down the road.

ETA - All pregnancy losses are important and so I changed my original wording from this post where I said "after a significant pregnancy loss".
