My OB said that we could try when we were ready ... It took us 3 months to get pregnant again, but we started trying the month following the m/c (it happened naturally with a d&c, etc.).

I had a miscarriage and conceived on the next cycle. The back up OB my birth center used said that's fine, you really don't need to wait if you have a natural miscarriage (as opposed to a d&c).

Granted, the baby I conceived was stillborn, but it had nothing to do with the fact that I conceived on that cycle.

My NP said we could immediately start trying after our loss at 5 weeks, although they are still doing testing every 48 hours to make sure my HGC levels are dropping and there isn't something else going on.

@cavalierkcs: Good luck and hoping for a sticky baby for you soon!

I'm sorry you have to go through such heartache and hardship.... I had a blighted ovum (D&C at 10weeks) last year. I was seeing a RE at the time who said that the only physical reason to wait a cycle before trying again was to time when the baby would be due. We started trying immediately (before the first cycle). I'd been using ovulation kits and the first time we found the little positive sign, we got preggerz again (1 cycle later).

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I may have told you earlier, but I didn't have a period between my first and second miscarriages. I got pregnant about two weeks after my first natural mc at 4 weeks. I lost that baby at 6weeks, though there is no evidence that getting pregnant so quickly causes a mc. We waited a cycle after the second, both for physical and emotional reasons. We are in cycle 2 and ntnp now. We will be back to full fledged TTC next month.

I hope you get your sticky baby soon!

@cavalierkcs: we lost our first baby at 20 weeks and our doctor advised we wait at least two cycles. We waited three because we were not emotionally ready after two.

my doctor advised 2 cycles, but mostly because of the emotional side. i would have started as soon as possible.. and did.. that just ended up being 3 months unfortunately before i had my first post-mc period.

So sorry for your loss!

We waited until after my first period (which was 35ish days after the D&C). So m/c at the end of July and started TTC again at the beginning of September.

@Mrs.Someone: thank you so much. I'm so sorry you're having a second :(. i hope that this is the last one you'll ever have to deal with.

@Weagle: I was wondering if the time-frame they gave me was for physical or emotional reasons... I also had no complication, but it was just a natural miscarriage at 7 weeks (no D&C needed).

@LizSmith: Thank you so much for sharing. This is all exactly what I have been wondering. If we start trying again, am I going to drive myself crazy if I don't know where I am in my cycle?Good idea with the blood tests..I wish you all the best in this journey and hope this is your month

@Thenetexan: Mine was also at 7 weeks.. Thanks for sharing what your OB said...I was concerned if trying so soon again could cause another MC. Wishing you all the best too

@artbee: @78h2o: @delight: @Mrs Checkers: @Freckles: Thank you all for all of the positive post-MC stories. It feels good to know it could just be another month or two away for us.

@tillma: I can imagine that the first trimester would be very stressful after a miscarriage. Sometimes I'm not sure if I'm emotionally "ready" yet either, or just overly eager.

Sorry for you loss :( Personally, I wanted DESPERATELY to be pregnant immediately after my miscarriage. I felt this hole in my heart that I just wanted filled. I began temping right away even though they told me it was a waste of time (body needs to regulate in order for temping to work....for the record it was a waste of time but made me feel like I was actually doing something which kept me sane) I got my period about 1m after my miscarriage but dont think I ovulated. The doctor then put us on an additional 1 month wait to treat an infection she thought I had. After the dust had settled and my desperate need to be pregnant again had faded I wasnt really sure I wanted to try again right away. It took us about 11 months to conceive the first time so eventually I thought we should try because I figured it wouldnt happen that fast anyway. Well it did. After one time. And I mean that literally...ONE time. Lol. Who would have thought? I was thrilled but at the same time because I hadnt properly dealt with my feelings about the miscarriage I spent my first trimester in a constant state of stress. To make matters worse I spotted all of the time which did nothing for my anxiety levels. Moral of the story: have hope that it will happen again and can happen quickly but make sure you are emotionally ready for it when it comes :) Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I had a natural m/c at 6w and my doctor told me that while the "rule" is to wait 2-3 cycles, that we were fine to go ahead and try again as soon as we wanted.

I had my D&C in April, and we got pregnant on the first try in June. I can't remember if it was one or two cycles we waited. I probably wouldn't rush it, even though i know it's such a pain to wait.

Also, I didn't mention it, but I'm getting blood draws every so often to make sure my hormone levels are dropping appropriately (they are). I REALLY want to get the doctor's reaction if they suddenly start heading back up because I'm preg again. I really don't like my doctor (we're moving in a month, so not bothering to find another), and annoying her by not waiting would make me happy.

We started again right away. We were told the wait period was mostly for dating purposes and so I could heal emotionally...but what I needed to help me heal was to start trying again, and I ended up getting an early dating scan when I got pregnant again 3 cycles later.

I'm really sorry for your loss.

We weren't TTC but I got a :bfp: after my 3rd cycle. It took a month exactly after the loss to get AF.

My OB gave us the go ahead after 12 weeks, but we had complications during the first D&C which resulted in me getting an infection and staying in the hospital for a week after my second procedure. Initially, we could've TTC after the first cycle.

I was pretty shocked to find out we were pregnant, as it took me awhile to get over the loss. We're 13w2d now and things are looking very healthy and happy :) Best of luck to you!

sorry for your loss  i had a natural m/c with no complications so technically could have started trying again once my cycle came back but my doctor advised 2-3 cycles but it was more for emotional reasons. I'm not that young and wanted to try again right away but ended up waiting a few months... I felt I needed that time to heal physically and emotionally. Best of luck to you!

My M/C was between 7-8 weeks and I had a D&C a week after that.
My doctor told me I could try again right away (next cycle). But EMOTIONALLY I was so not ready for that. People that knew would say "you can try again right away, that's great" and I'd look at them like "are you nuts?!? Why would I want to do this to myself again???" I think it was a combo of the hormones and that I had awful MS and it just felt worse that there was no baby and I still felt awful.
About a month later I felt like I at least wanted to be pregnant again, but still not "ready".
We didn't actively start TTC until April (MC was January with D&C in Feb). I'm now 8w1d :-)

I started trying the cycle After I miscarried. Mine was a natural mc at 7 weeks. My doctor said there was no reason to wait and that fertility can be increased in the few months following a mc. I mc early September and was PG two cycles after, BFP in early December. Good luck and sorry you have to go through this.

Sorry for your loss. Both of mine were in the 6 to 7 week time frame and happened on their own. I suspect those are factors in determining when to try again. We were told by the OB after both that we could try immediately. He did a scan to make sure everything was gone and said that my body woul not release an egg if it were not ready. After the first we waited until AF appeared and then tried. It took two more cycles to get pregnant again and then we lost that one too. The OB said it has nothing to do with how soon we got pregnant again. He did however reference some studies suggesting you wait six months, but that he did not believe in those studies. I am too old to wait six months, so we will try again right away. I wish you all the best in your journey.

I'm 29 days post-m/c, and we started trying right away. From what I could tell, a lot of the recommendation for waiting was so they could date the next pregnancy better, and for emotional reasons. Emotionally what I needed was to move on and feel like there was still hope, and trying again was the best way to do that. I didn't use OPK's or anything, since I wasn't sure how a m/c would effect them.

The only reason I sort of wish we'd waited is that I'm now driving myself crazy waiting for AF or BFP. I have no way of knowing when AF is due, so I don't know when I'm late. I still haven't gotten a true negative (just some insanely faint positives), so I'm left testing periodically and hoping they're dark positives. Had a few symptoms in the last day that remind me of early pregnancy, so that's driving me even more nutty. Oh well, I'd be doing this just as much next month, I'd just have a better timeframe for doing it.

My OB told me that with a normal miscarriage, there is not enough evidence to say waiting is necessary. She did advise waiting 2-3 cycles, though, just to give time for us to heal emotionally. (I had a D&C with no complications).
