@jill_a55: ugh, that sounds miserable :( Waking a sleeping baby seriously sucks. I hope that at the very least, your feedings get more efficient so that you can get some more sleep!

In the beginning it felt like it took hours. We were also making the mistake of feeding him first and then changing his diaper, which woke him up. And he HATED diaper changes for a long time and would scream through them. Around 8 weeks he stopped pooping at night and he's never cared about having a wet diaper, so we stopped changing him every time he woke up.

Now he generally takes about 10-15 minutes. On a typical night he just eats and goes back to sleep. I think he's not even hungry, he just needs help getting back to sleep.

@LovelyPlum: yeah, every 2-3 hours, it will be like that until he's at least 4 months, then I think we can add on an hour... :bummed: I haaaate having to wake him up because he is totally asleep and I just know he would sleep for a lot longer if we could let him! I don't consider what I do "sleep" anymore... more like naps. Crappy little naps. lol

Since she was about 2.5 months old, it has taken 15-30 minutes. I pretty much always do a diaper change because she's a heavy wetter and the few times I haven't, she has leaked by morning. So it's usually 5 minutes for diaper, 10 minutes to nurse, and then right back into the crib on a good night, or a few minutes of soothing on a not-so-good night.

At one month we're down to about 45 mins from one hour a few weeks ago. She's more efficient at nursing now (even though she pops on and off a lot) and I don't have to take as much time to keep her awake when we switch sides as I used to.

DD2 is 6.5 months and it takes 20 minutes. This includes nursing session and diaper change. She is able, now, to put herself to sleep so no rocking necessary.

Wow, seems like there is a big difference depending on the baby. She isn't pooping as much MOTN anymore, but she haaaaates being wet, so we usually have to change her still. You ladies do give Mr hope that she will get more efficient at eating, though!

Yeah, was usually about an hour for the first few weeks, I think even by 4-6 weeks it had dropped down to 30-45 mins and by 12 weeks was usually more like 20 mins (where it has stayed for over 8 months now, ugh!).

That sounds about right for that age!

Eventually they get more efficient at eating and you can stop with the diaper changes and that way they just wake, nurse, and go back to sleep.

LO is 6 months old, and wake ups usually take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour or two. He usually poops in the middle of the night (sometimes multiple times in a single wake up). Eating doesn't take too long, but sometimes it takes him a while to fall back asleep.

Early days with C it was at least an hour. She was a slow comfort nurser but if I tried cutting her off she got pissed! I forget when I did but once I stopped changing diaper in motn, and kept her in the swaddle during the feeding, it got a little faster. By five months it was down to maybe 20 minutes or so.

I remember my friend saying her same age done was less than 30 min start to finish and I was like, what???

Less than 10 minutes. She never poops at night, so I stopped doing night changes around 3 weeks. She is also a very fast nurser, so she gets down to business right away.

My son was a completely different baby and it would take 45min to an hour. I always changed him and then nursing took forever. He didn't become efficient until maybe 5 months? But it would still take at least 30min.

M has a long spell of bot wanting to sleep from about 9 til midnight. Afterwards, he's up about every 3 hours and it's for about 30 minutes. Usually just feeding then cause he doesn't poop all the time anymore.

Oh boy that seems long! For the first few months it took around 15 -20 minutes for us with diaper change and rocking for a few minutes. My LO has only ever eaten for a couple minutes at a time in MOTN. At 8 months now, she typically just gets up once around 5-6am and I don't do dipe changes anymore. I'm usually only out Of bed 5 -10 mins.

They became MUCH more efficient. When she was that young it would take about an hour or more to get her up, changer her, feed her, and get her back to sleep. Sometimes longer if she wasn't interested in going back to sleep. Now, at 8 months, maybe 20 minutes. Usually less. Her diaper is never dirty when I first get her up so I rarely have to change her. I feed her and put her straight back in bed. She puts herself back to sleep. She usually babbles for a little while before falling asleep again. She has always been a relatively efficient nurser. She can eat in 15 minutes and be full.

It does get better!

We are averaging an hour or so from wake up to sleep. That includes changing, feeding, burping, maybe changing again, and rocking back to sleep. She is not terribly efficient at eating yet (lots of starts/stops), so even just 20 minutes of eating can take double that amount of time. Fortunately, she usually only has 1or 2 wake ups a night, but it still takes its toll. LO is 18 days old.

How long do your wake ups take? If it used to be a while, when did they become more efficient?
