Usually ten minutes or do. She then starts comfort nursing, but I can usually switch in a pacifier fairly early into it.

@MrsH: Probably an ounce or less. Based on weighed feedings & my pumping output (I respond well to the pump so it's an accurate measure) I produce about 2-2.5 oz every 3 hours or so. At night I only nurse one side to try to get her more hindmilk, and she switches to a comfort suck pretty quickly. Her night feedings are more snacks, and for comfort. She actually STTN for a while so I am not sure how truly hungry she is in the MOTN. (Which makes all the more annoying how long she nurses!)

I was worried about not supplementing at night at first, but at that point her weight gain was great & I wanted to help her shift more of her caloric intake to daytime.

@daniellemybelle: how much do you figure she gets at night nursing? I definitely have the most milk in the MOTN/morning but it is still probably only two ounces.

@MrsH: Oh, gotcha - at 6 weeks we were still supplementing at night too. I think she was about 8-10 weeks when we started just nursing at night. Interestingly the few times I have tried to give her a bottle at night recently, she isn't a fan, even though she acts like my boobs are trying to kill her during the day!

Wow, I am jealous of all of you! Last night I tried to cut her off at 30 minutes both feedings & she wasn't having it. Both times I ended up falling asleep in the chair so I spent about 4 hours total out of bed last night :(

When I was nursing, I was able to wake, change a diaper, and nurse in about 25 minutes. I guess I was pretty lucky then. Hang in there... you'll get uninterrupted sleep soon!

Anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour. LO likes to poop in the middle of the night, which makes the wake ups last a bit longer.

He was about 20-30 minutes. Some nights I'd fall asleep and he'd nurse for an hour or more until I woke back up. I think he liked that.

Like @Smurfette: DS would stay latched forever if I let him. He's 7 months now, but it's a hit and miss if he'll stay asleep if I unlatch him after 5-10 minutes. If it's a miss, then he's rooting and I have to let him re-latch. Otherwise, it's a screaming/crying mess; and I just have to try and unlatching him a few minutes later. Rinse and repeat.

Initially it was about 45 minutes, but I think (hope) he's becoming a more efficient eater. The past couple of weeks it's more like 20-25 minutes, and I'll take any extra minute of sleep I can get!! He's 7.5 weeks

Now it's less than half an hour start to finish, at 7 months, usually. She really eats for at least ten minutes, then another five to ten min as she comfort nurses. Now I can put her down still slightly awake, rub her back, and leave and she can settle herself back to sleep. For a loooong time it was more like an hour!

My DD is very fast, she's usually done in less than 10min, but since she is a puker, I hold her upright for at least 5min before putting her back in bed. My DS was very slow...it would take at least 45min!

I am usually up with LO at least 30 minutes. She will fall asleep at the breast in as soon as 5 minutes but if I try to unlatch her that soon she cries & roots furiously. She will nurse half-asleep sometimes for close to an hour before she will let me put her back down. And sometimes that means I fall asleep in the glider, so I end up holding her for much longer!

Right now I only offer one breast (I used to nurse both sides at night) and after we establish solids I will probably try to slowly shorten night nursing sessions. This is a bit much!
