@misslipgloss, including the two minutes but sometimes I go 20-25 min (if I'm playing on my phone and don't notice the time) and I don't get anything more if I go that long. First thing in the morning (after not pumping at night), I'll stay hooked up longer, though. I only get about 13-15 oz/day, but I just don't know how to change that because staying hooked up longer doesn't yield me anything extra! Grrr

I HATE that last pumping session of the day. D goes down around 8:30, and then I pump right before bed, at 10. Then I nurse him when I get him up at 6 (and pump the other side so I'm "even") before leaving for work. Even with that 10pm pumping session, I still wake up really full. So as much as I want to drop that, I just don't think I could.

Thanks for all the feedback!!!

I think I'm going to play it by ear for now. If she has a really good nursing session (or we don't nurse until later than usual) in the evenings, then I'll skip it. On days where I feel like my supply is dipping, or it doesn't feel like she nursed effectively, I'll toss it back in.

That is EXACTLY my pump schedule! And, I hate my 9 pm pump too - I just want to go to bed after DD does!! I have to pump for 40 minutes, because it's a constant drip of milk, I don't think I ever have a real let down. If I stopped at 20 minutes, I'd only have half the milk - and I don't get enough as it is.

I'd love to know if you drop that 9 pm pump how it affects your supply!

I could never pump that evening session more than a couple of times. At that age it was nurse first thing, pump 3x/work, nurse twice at home before bed. If she wakes up overnight, I nurse her. If not, I go from the time she goes to bed - 7pm - until she wakes up - 6am.

I nurse at 6 p.m., baby down by 7, pump around 9 p.m. I don't nurse again until he wakes up, usually around midnight.

My schedule right now is:

Nurse 6 a.m.
Pump 8:30 a.m.
Pump 12:30 p.m.
Pump 3:30 p.m.
Nurse 6 p.m.
Pump 9 p.m.
Nurse midnight
Nurse 3 a.m.

He's still doing 2 night wakings. He's 12 weeks. We'll see how this does us (just came back to work today) and adjust from there.

I just dropped that same pumping session and just figure if supply dips too much then might have to pick it up again. But man, that last one before going to bed is the worst. I hated every last minute of it.

nurse 3:30am
nurse 6:30am
pump 10am
pump 1pm
pump 4pm
nurse 7pm
pump 9pm
pump 11pm if I don't have enough milk for the next day (50% of the time)
nurse 1am or 1:30 if LO wakes up hungry (50% of the time)

Lately because of supply issues I started trying to pump every 2 hours (but not overnight... I'd pump at 11, she'd nurse at 1:30, 3:30, 6:30). After 2 or 3 days of doing that, my supply improved. Last night she woke up at 3:30 and 6:30. I hope someday to drop the evening pumping sessions, but I know right now that I can't or it would hurt my supply.

Good luck!

@highwire: I just last week stopped 9pm pump and give him formula when I don't defrost enough stored milk.
I'm not worried about supply though (DS still nurses many times at night).

nurse and pump at 6:30
pump 10:45
pump 2:45
nurse 5:45
nurse 7:00

on days i'm home, i nurse every 3 hours during the day. so almost 12 hours no nursing/pumping. i dropped the last pump about 2 months ago when i thought sleep was more valuable. i'm still engorged every morning though. and my supply didn't take a hit.

I nurse at 5 am, pump the other side at 6 am, then pump at 9, 12, 3 then nurse again between 5-6 pm. I make just about the right amount for my LO every day. She eats 18 oz at daycare. I didn't see supply issues, and after awhile the engorgement works itself out so its not like rocks on my chest in the morning.

On weekends, I only pump the side my LO didn't nurse from once in the morning. I get between 8-10 oz over the weekend that goes in my freezer stash.

My LO is six months old.

Sorry...I didn't weigh in on the dropping of sessions. I kind of think that no matter how many you cut, you'll still want to do a "before bed" pump. I haven't tried having a 12 hour stretch so I can't say for sure, but I know that you are very concerned about supply so I'd cut slowly unless you are okay with the prospect of losing supply (sometimes just kind of letting it happen slowly by dropping pumps is the best way...).

I'm nearly 7 months pp and I pump at 6am, 2pm, 10pm. My greatest supply was about 35 ounces a day, but as soon as I got there, I started reducing sessions because I didn't want more than that (lo has never eaten more than 21 ounces in a day). When I dropped from 4 to 3 I lost somewhere between 6 and 8 ounces and I'm now at about 20 a day. We've always been using formula also because of reflux...

And I ALWAYS pump for 30. I totally hate it when people (I mean like LCs or websites) say a specific amount of time is the rule because it just doesn't work for everyone, especially EPers.

@highwire: I recently dropped to just 3 pumping sessions (I EP), so I go around 12-13 hours now. My supply has dipped from about 35 oz. a day to 28-30 oz. I've been taking Mother's Milk Tea and Brewers Yeast to keep my supply up, but I may add a 4th session a few times a week if my supply dips any further.. If i were you, i would cut the session then monitor it for a week and reassess how comfortable you are with your supply. Good luck!

I pump every 3-4 hours, too, and last night, for the first time ever, I skipped my 4am session and went about 8 hours without pumping...AND my 7am session ended up being my highest yielding session EVER! Like, even if you added up my usual 4am and 7am. So maybe it did me some good! I'm going to skip the 4am again tonight and see how it goes

Eta; I only pump for 15 minutes. The LC told me not to do it any longer. 15 min is much more reasonable than 25!!!

Here's our current schedule:

6 AM: Nurse
9 AM: Pump
12 PM: Pump
3 PM: Pump
6 PM: Nurse
9PM: Pump (after she has gone to bed)

That last pumping session at 9 PM is the worst. I hate everything about it. I'm finally winding down from the day, exhausted, tired, etc. Having to disrobe, hook up to the milk machine, and pump for 25 minutes is torture. LO is 5 months old. Think I could drop that last session without hurting my supply? Maybe I should try cutting it down to 3x a week?
