@SLR: Wow--those are pretty strict deadlines. The longest I've kept in the fridge was 5 days, but I primarily stick to 3 days.

I've kept it in the fridge for up to a week. DS just took a week-old bottle and was fine with it. I usually do 3-4 days, but sometimes it ends up being longer. When in doubt, sniff it. If it seems off, dump it.

I pump, keep it in the fridge 24 hours, pump that next night and then add them together to freeze. So 24 hours normally, but have left it in there 2-3 days before. I'd say its "best" within a couple of days, the sooner it is used the better. If you think you won't use it in a couple of days, I would freeze it. Which I have milk in the freezer that is several months old, I'd never be able to use it all in a month, that's crazy!

@Mrs. Bee: Oh, I didn't realize you could put in the fridge for a couple days and then freeze. I thought it needed to go right in the freezer. Thanks for the tip!

I would leave milk that I pumped at work on Friday in the fridge all weekend and send it to daycare on Monday. Never had a problem. :-)

Pretty much everything I've read (including the BF'ing class at the hospital) says that refrigerated breastmilk is good for 3-8 days (but ideally closer to 3) and that room temperature is fine for 4-6 hours.

But for some reason my ped recommends 1 day in the fridge, 1 hour at room temperature, and 1 month in the freezer. This has me a little paranoid about using it after a few days. I have a few in the fridge that are 2-3 days old and hate to throw them away.

How long do you all use milk from the fridge?
