I was just thinking that I should set my son's audio monitor up again today. I really need one just to hear him when he wakes up from his nap....he's 2.5 years old.

@Crumbs: my friend still has her monitor for their 4-year old. she doesn't use it to see what's going on--they more use it for the "walkie talkie" function. you know, he asks for something and they tell him to go back to bed :)

@edelweiss: I think the main reason for me to have one is for snooping. But then I know I'll have to let go eventually and give her privacy. I'm not sure when's a good time to do that though. Is 5 too abusive? Lol.

I have no idea if we'll use a monitor ... I'm loving this thread. For those of you with monitors: have any of you just used the old kind (without the video function)? I feel like that's what we'd rather use, but I have no idea about the pros/cons.

LO is almost 23 months (holy moly, almost 2!) and we still use her monitor. We're not sure what we're going to do when the new baby comes, she'll be 2 1/2. We'll want a monitor in there for sure, but I don't know if we'll do video or audio, we have both but use the video.

i think if you don't feel like you need it and haven't missed it, then it's one baby item you can cross off the list! i got a monitor around 3 months when we sleep trained. LO isn't a great sleeper, and would often wake up but just need about 15 minutes before going back to sleep again--the monitor was helpful for me because i could look at it and make sure that everything was okay (no vomit, limbs getting stuck, etc.) without going in and upsetting him even more. my personality is also such that i like to obsessively check on things even when it's completely unnecessary and useless. it's a great trait.

My LO is only 3.5 months, so I can't say for sure how long we will use ours, but his room is upstairs and our room is downstairs, so I suspect we'll use it past 1 year, since it's a long way to go to check on him from downstairs. Plus I'll want to make sure he's in bed and stuff once we transition to a toddler bed. We have a video monitor.

We are still using it especially now that shes in her big girl room across the house. She's mobile and I trust that if she got up, she would just come to our room, but I would like to know if she gets up and isn't sleeping. We just have a normal sound one, not video or anything.

We never bought a baby monitor because we co-slept. Now she's in her crib, but it's just outside of our bedroom. She's turning 1 soon and we plan to finally move her into her own room (downstairs). But I'm not sure if we'll really need a monitor since she's a little older and fully mobile.

How long did you use or plan to use your baby monitor? For those of you with LOs that are older than 1, do you think it's still useful? When will you take it down?
