I waited 45 minutes in a gown yesterday while DH waited in the waiting room (so the doctor could ask if he was abusing me when she finally showed up). The only thing that kept me sane was focusing on getting a break from work + toddler. When I finally had my ultrasound they said "oh, your bladder is full." Well, duh you made a pregnant woman wait a long time. I'm switching practitioners for the next appointment. I asked for the most punctual person.

About 10 minutes in the waiting room and about 10 minutes in the exam room. I always tried to avoid Mondays and Fridays since those are usually really busy days.

Most of my appointments have been in the afternoon. I've waited between 10 and 30 minutes past my appointment time. It's a birthing center and due to the way they rotate, I don't think the midwives doing appointments get called away for delivery unless there are multiple women in labor at the same time. Their appointment cards ask you to arrive 15 minutes early, which I stopped doing since it didn't seem to help and just meant I sat there longer. Now I get there 5 minutes before, maybe 10. I wouldn't mind if they would put more comfortable seats in the waiting room; theirs are terrible with no support at all.

@yellowbird: We were with a small midwife practice. It was in an old home, with no real waiting area. This meant we went right in. There was one time we had to wait about 5 min, because my midwife was helping the previous client load her kids into the car. We chose this practice because we had heard great things about the way they scheduled appointments, and that the did several home visits.

One thing I love about my practice is that I almost never have to wait. I was living out of state for work during my first trimester, and while I liked the OB I used while I was there, I always had to wait 30-45 minutes even with the first appointment of the day. I would have elevated blood pressure by the time the doctor saw me!!

Thankfully my practice just opened a brand new office in another town so I've been going there and the wait has been 10-15 minutes tops. At the old office they were overbooked and typical wait times were about 25-40 minutes.

My midwives come to me, but, it isn't unusual for the to be anywhere up to 20 minutes late. But, at least I'm at home and can still get stuff done or laze about on my own couch.

When I still went to Kaiser it was really unpredictable. Usually I waited less than 10m. Once I waited more than 90m.

My new OB is TERRIBLE about wait time. My ex-OB was better. But I think I would have been at risk for a c-section if I had not switched, so I am ok with waiting -- especially now that I am no longer pregnant so it's only once per year!

I try for as early in the morning as possible and have been fairly fortunate this pregnancy. My wait has been fairly minimal. My prior pregnancy was horrible with waiting though. I remember one day waiting over an hour (closer to 2) and then needing to re-schedule due to an emergency surgery. It was very frustrating.

I wonder if you OB does rounds at the hospital first and that causes the delay?

It depends! I've waited only 5-10 min, to almost an hour! I usually try to get the 1st appointment, I have a lunch appt coming up so I'll see how that goes. Also I've gone to different locations (it's a group practice) and it alll depends on day of the week, time of the day, etc!

Aw, that stinks. I don't understand why they make you wait if you're the first appointment, or the first after lunch. Always makes me think of poor planning and logistics. But, our MW office is great and I generally don't want longer than 5 - 10 minutes.

I have started calling to see if they're on time for appts b/c otherwise, that's time i spend sitting there, twiddling my thumb, and it's just time i have to make up at work later.
