The only thing that kept me sane was focusing on getting a break from work + toddler. When I finally had my ultrasound they said "oh, your bladder is full." Well, duh you made a pregnant woman wait a long time. I'm switching practitioners for the next appointment. I've waited between 10 and 30 minutes past my appointment time. It's a birthing center and due to the way they rotate, I don't think the midwives doing appointments get called away for delivery unless there are multiple women in labor at the same time. Their appointment cards ask you to arrive 15 minutes early, which I stopped doing since it didn't seem to help and just meant I sat there longer. Now I get there 5 minutes before, maybe 10. It was in an old home, with no real waiting area. This meant we went right in. There was one time we had to wait about 5 min, because my midwife was helping the previous client load her kids into the car. I was living out of state for work during my first trimester, and while I liked the OB I used while I was there, I always had to wait 30-45 minutes even with the first appointment of the day. My wait has been fairly minimal. My prior pregnancy was horrible with waiting though. I remember one day waiting over an hour (closer to 2) and then needing to re-schedule due to an emergency surgery.
