Anything more than 30 minutes irritates me, that's why I love my midwife because I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes.

Longer than 20-30 min and I get annoyed. It's one thing if it's once and a while, but regular long wait times are not ok. I feel like the appointment time should be when you're seen.

This is one of my biggest frustrations. They need to make appointment times longer or build in breaks. My office does a call system for deliveries and you get whoever is on call to do your delivery so they have no excuse there for being late. I had the second appointment of the day a few weeks ago and I waited 90 minutes to be seen because the office manager accidentally only scheduled one midwife instead of two and then booked appointments for both. I wish there were ramifications for them being late but what are they going to do, give your money back? I have switched practices but it is like going from bad to worse. Plus this is the only group that delivers at the place I want to deliver.

Over an hour. In Ontario it's pretty common to wait 30-45 minutes at the doctor's office even with an appointment.

Is it a small town? Do they have too many patients?

I'm really surprised by the 30 minute responses!

My doctor is sometimes 4 hours behind because of emergency surgeries. I always call 15 minutes before my scheduled appointment and ask how far behind the doctor is. I'll call 2 hours later to see if anything changed, etc. Then i'll get to the office 30 minutes after the time she told me. This usually brings the wait down to 1 hour (including waiting in the actual room).

I think it's all about managing your expectations, and if you can't handle the waits then consider switching OBs. My friend couldn't handle our doctor's wait times, especially with a toddler so she switched to a clinic that had doctors rotating throughout the day. I learned after the first time (waiting 4 hours) what i had to do to make sure i could work around his crazy schedule.

Well I finally am back home - ended waiting over 3 hours between the two doctor offices. Blah - hopefully next week will be better or I'll probably be crying in the waiting room! Haha.

I have only gotten to see either of these doctors in less than 45min probably about 4 visits out of like 15 between the two, but it's not usually as bad as today!

And I agree with the others who have said they understand if delivery or something comes up - but when that's happened in the past I'm usually given a reason or warning. The only reason I got at either office was that things are usually crazy after a holiday weekend. Oh well moving on :)

wow-- that does seem like an unacceptable amt of time to wait :( did they have any explanation for you?

@Arden: lol, I had the exact opposite experience! my OB's office was crazy great -- always in within 5 minutes, knew who I was and followed my pregnancy closely, and my midwives office was not so great -- never remembered me, got me mixed up with other patients, often had to wait a really long time, etc! BUT, they were really nice people and the care was adequate, and I had a great birth experience with both my OB office and the midwives (2 different births). I'm so glad you had a good experience!!

I do wish they would call if they are running late, sometimes, I am in the waiting room when the doctor is arriving for the morning, lol.

To see the normal doctor I rarely have to wait longer than 10mins and often I go right in. To see the midwife I had to wait 30mins at least every time...DH took time off work to come too and it sucked. I got really mad once when I had to wait 40mins!

Ugh, a 30 minute wait time for me is lucky! Apparently I picked the most popular OB in the city, because I get an hour wait almost every time. I'm usually pretty livid by the time they call me in, and about ready to find a new Dr., but then I see her and remember why I love her so much. They do always have to take my blood pressure twice though, because I get so worked up sitting there for an hour.

And, I do try to be understanding that she's delivering other babies (and luckily her practice is right next door to the hospital), BUT, I was in the hospital for 3.5 days and she never once came to see me... I'm still a little bitter about that...

@Mrs. Sunshine: same! For my first pp appointment, I had to take DS (6 weeks old at the time) and I had to wait an hour and a half to be seen! My OB was delivering babies but it would have been nice of the office to reschedule the patients who were already in their rooms.

30 minutes is when I want to reschedule, usually.

I used to get super annoyed, until I had my baby and realized that someone else was stuck waiting at the office so my doc could come deliver me. I'm fine waiting now if it means someone else gets to have their own doctor deliver them. And that's really saying something because I'm super impatient.

I'll wait 30 minutes before I say something to front desk. If I sit there for 45 min-1 hour I reschedule with an attitude.

If I get there and go straight to an exam room, I'm out in the hallway after 30 min! I don't have time for that, and honestly it's bullshit. 30 minutes? Ok, stuff happens.. an hour? Someone isn't doing their job properly.

I have zero tolerance for that, because that is time I am taking
(unpaid) off of work.. to be on time for an appointment they made for me & didn't call to let me know would be behind. Nope nope nope.

30 minutes. After that, Im pretty pissed. Don't make a big deal about how I have to be on time (on a military base, they tell you 15 minutes early or they'll give your slot away) and then make me wait forever. Eff that.

I always hated afternoon OB appointments because I would end up waiting in the waiting room for 30+ minutes and then wait another 45+ in the actual room! Waiting in the room is the worst...especially if you have to disrobe because you are just sitting there partially naked. I never had an issue with my morning OB appointments because I never waited longer than 30 minutes.

I think I can understand once or twice waiting more than 30 minutes but if it is a weekly occurrence I would get pissed if I had to wait longer than 30-45 minutes for an appointment.

I start getting annoyed after about 45 minutes. I usually just expect my OB to be running late. I just hope he's not off doing a delivery. I don't mind waiting in the waiting room, but HATE waiting forever in the exam room. I try to schedule appointments first thing in the morning or right when lunch break is over.

So i know that doctors (especially OBs) run behind because they can run off to deliver babies, but I have started calling and asking if they are on time and/or will be on time so that I know whether or not to come at a certain time or not. I will also ask if i can see the nurse practitioner instead, in order to scoot things along. I have shit to do. Waiting an hour plus to see the dr isn't one of them

@.twist.: Obviously things come up and sometimes you're the one waiting and sometimes you're the one causing the delay. I think it would just be nice to let people know instead of plopping them down in the waiting room for God knows how long. I'd really appreciate if they let me know that the doctor is behind schedule by an estimated amount of time. For me, it's all about managing expectations.

I usually try to schedule my appointments for first thing in the morning so there is less chance of the doctor running behind schedule. I've always felt like my doctor is a little bit too efficient with my appointments but maybe it is a good thing since I don't usually have to wait more than 20 or 30 minutes and 15 is typical. Famous last words...

I voted an hour but I'd probably already be annoyed after 30 min but that seems to be the norm. I hate that I always get there early too!
