heater is set to 70 when we're home, 66 when we go to bed, and 62 if we're not home. DH would like it kept colder, and I warmer, so the current settings are our compromise. i turn on my little space heater in the morning when I get ready. we have no a/c, but have a nice built in attic fan that helps keep the house cool in the summer, along with good insulation.

DH turned the heat on earlier this week. But it's been hit or miss depending on the day. October is usually normal for heat... june/july for A/C!

So far it hasn't been that bad it got down to 24 last weekend and our house got down to 55. My husband was happy cause I spent the weekend cleaning trying to keep warm. We had the space heater going in the bedroom so we were at least warmish at night.

We're in southern Ontario, heat went on for first time yesterday, it was 64 in the house, and I needed to get the chill out of the air for my own sanity, so it's set to 68 and will stay there for now.

A/C, as needed! This summer was a lot more than usual (preggo!) But typically no more than 10 days or so, but we definitely could have it on more, but choose not to!

UPDATE: cracked heat exchange=CO poisoning. Thankfully we were able to avoid that! However, that means we have to buy a new furnace. Heater tech guy, "By the way your AC unit and water heater are 17 years old, you should consider updating those as well. The life expectancy for them is 15 yrs."

BIT OF ADVICE: buy a home with NEWER heating and cooling equipment! Oh and newer roof! We will be re-roofing this summer. I am eating my words (its not that old, and were gonna sell it right away anyways)

AC gets set to 78 at our home, and is only on if we're physically in the house. Heat stays at 67 when we're at home, and I'll either turn it off completely if we are gone for short periods, or set it to 55 for longer periods.

We don't have AC but it rarely gets really hot here. We keep our thermostat on 70 in the winter.

We have no climate control beyond some space heaters! But when I'm in the car and 9 months pregnant, like I am now, I turn on the AC immediately! It's the only reason I like being in the car by myself.... I can really crank it up.

We normally don't turn on AC until its 85+, then we set it to 78. For winter, we wait until about 55, then set it to 58-62 in the living area downstairs. Upstairs in the bedroom we just set to 50. We also don't have kids yet, so we tough it out to reduce costs. This will surely change when we have a LO

The Mr. & I have a difference of opinion on when to turn on the heater or air conditioner. Every summer and fall we have the same argument on when to turn on our unit. In the summer we usually set it to 80 during the day while we are gone and 78 when we are home. In the fall/winter we set it for 68 while we are gone and 72 when we are home and back to 68 for bed time (mr. is warm blooded, me not so much)

We have a beautiful 113yr old bungalow with all the original wood work and hard wood floors. Along with that comes old vents that don't distribute the air flow properly. There is usually a 5-10 degree difference from room to room & between levels. According to our thermostat in our dining room, which is receiving full sun light right now, it is 64 degrees. The basement is 58 degrees, our bed room is 60. Outdoor temp is 51 with an expected low of 24 tonight.

The upside to doing things this way is that we have VERY low utilities, 118/mo for gas AND electric for 1800sqft.

I have a feeling the husband will either lose this battle tonight or be sleeping on the couch :-)
