@woodentulip: Ok, so sounds like my daughter truly is a slow eater, and this isn't an issue for all babies. Don't get me wrong, she loves her food and will eat a ton of it, but it just takes absolutely *forever*. Now I really am going to blame her dad. b/c he is an incredibly slow eater too.

The problem is that if every meal takes 1 hr, that takes a huge amount of time from our day!

My 10 month old will eat everything as fast as we can both put it in front of her and she can shovel it in.
Last night I made cedar plank salmon, and I decided to give her some to see how it would go over--HUGE HIT. She ate a giant amount, and green beans, and polenta.
Tonight was roasted chicken thighs, rice and broccoli, and again, about 1/2 a chicken thigh, 3 broccoli florets and a smattering of rice--all in about 15 minutes. It's amazing.

DD is loving feeding herself table food these days, which is awesome. Last night she had some fresh mozzerella and peas. This morning an over-hard egg and some blueberries. However, meals when she feeds herself take absolutely *forever*! Is this normal? It takes her a full hour often to eat all of her food, and I get the feeling that she would continue eating at a snail's pace for even longer if I let her. Is this a phase? Or am I stuck with a slow eater for life? (DH is also a very slow eater, so I'm worried she is taking after him!)
