@podomama: @autumnlove: seriously. I go to make dinner and I hear dh say, "let's go see what mommy is doing!" Really? Mommy is working with very sharp knives and a hot stove. And the second lo sees me and knows that I can't play she wants me to play. And then I can't open the dishwasher and clean as I go or she wants to get in. Oy.

But to answer the question, I pick quick meals, usually 20-30 minutes max prepping. If it's going to be longer I tell dh to take lo on a walk.

Once we got over the newborn stage, LO has been able to entertain herself for a bit. Even if its just a few minutes at a time, it's long enough to get dinner done in parts.

Or, I can cook while LO eats/plays with her food in her high chair. Or DH watches LO (though he often cooks, and I take care of LO).

Sometimes we just wait until LO is asleep for the night (8 at the latest) and then make dinner.

Most things either my husband or I can prepare in 30-45 minutes.

Totally depends on the meal. LO is still an infant but dinner time falls during her typical fussy period. So there's often lots of rocking the RnP with my foot, or running to the swing to replace a paci which is tough.

@podomama: Even when my DH is home, he lets LO crawl around the kitchen! Drives me nuts!

P does a pretty good job of entertaining herself on most days at 9 months & G is 8 so he is usually playing outside in the afternoon or her can help entertain his sister. Since I make almost all our meals from scratch though it can take anywhere from 30 min to 1.5 hours depending on what I'm making.... chopping veggies can take forever if P is being demanding!

My LO is almost 2 yrs old now ....it is still difficult for me to get anything done around the house. Cooking is the most difficult b/c I never get a moment long enough in the kitchen without my LO pulling me away. My DH gets home after me but even when he's home he's not a whole lot of help as far as watching our son (what IS it with men ??????). It drives me crazy. How long does it usually take you to cook dinner ? And how do you do it with a little one ?
