DD is usually up for 2.5 or 3 hours before taking her first nap & then is up for 3 hours before taking her second nap. We are in the process of weaning the 2nd nap, following her lead, & it will make for an earlier bedtime which will be pretty nice :)

sounds similar to my 3 month old!
He lasts about 1.5 hours in the morning before his morning nap, then maybe two hours in the afternoon. IF he takes a 2-2.5 hour nap BOTH naps then that's all the sleep he needs, but often he has one long nap, and two short 30-45 minute naps instead.

My LO is almost 4 months old and she can only stay awake about 1 hour before naps and 1.5 hours max before bedtime. We've stretched it to 2 hours before bedtime sometimes, but it's hit and miss. Those longer stretches usually result in a super cranky screaming baby so I try to keep it to 1.5 hours. If we don't get her down for a nap at 1 hour, then she gets really cranky and it's almost impossible to put her down without topping her off either nursing or an ounce in the bottle. People think I put her to sleep to much but I'm just really trying to respect her natural sleep pattern. The few times we took her out and she didn't get to nap, it was hell for all of us until we got her home for bedtime.

Mine is just a month old but she is up for HOURS between naps!!! It's so hard to get her down for nap. I'm vigilante about trying ot put her down within 1.5 hours but she just fights it. I know she's tired because she gets super cranky, starts crying etc.

Usually she naps twice in the early part of the day. But by the time 3/4 rolls around I can not get her down for a nap till she's down for the night!

She def does not get the "16-20hr".

My 8.5 month old wakes around 7, takes a 30 minute nap around 9, then 3.5ish hours later is ready for a 2 hour afternoon nap. He usually does not take a third nap but goes to bed around 7ish.

@Mrs. Bee: It just makes it difficult to take her out with me. People think I'm antisocial or have agoraphobia or something bc I'm always asking them if we can hang out at my house bc of LO...she doesn't sleep anywhere except her crib.

@MrsHotDog: I totally got that "judgement" from others...like I'm forcing her to sleep. My mom came and stayed with me when my husband was out of town for work and she was able to see that LO definitely let's us know she is tired and ready to go to sleep. Now my mom gets it and understands why we can't make it to a lot of family events sin LO is usually napping.

@sandy: I definitely wouldn't worry if I were you, just enjoy it! We had to go to the pediciatrician a few weeks ago because we thought she might be having night terrors. The pedi asked about her sleeping habits and when I told her, she was surprised but she said that it is great that she still sleeps so much because sleep is so good for them. And she also told me that she was happy to hear that I didn't interfer with her natural sleepig habits - which was really nice to hear since I was getting comments from grandparents and even other moms about how much I let her sleep! I kept telling them that I didn't have a choice because she makes it very clear she is ready for a nap but now it is nice to be able to tell them that her doctor supports her sleep and that every baby requires a different amount of sleep.

@MrsHotDog: I get so relieved when I hear there are other babies that sleep this much bc sometimes I worry she sleeps too much...her pediatrician says let her sleep as much as she wants and she will eventually increase her awake time.

Other babies at 6 months are awake 2-3 hours and my LO is only awake for 1 hour between her naps and still takes 3 naps that are 1.5-2 hours. She is awake 1.5-2 hours before bedtime which is around 6:00-6:30 and she wakes up between 7:00-8:00.

We just transitioned from 3 long naps and a catnap to just 3 naps but I guess I won't try to push her to 2 naps anytime soon bc it sounds like at 10 months she could still be taking 3 naps.

My daughter is 10 months but you can't tell by her sleep patterns. She goes down for nap one an hour and a half after waking up. Then it is two hours for naps two and three. She sleeps 12 hours at night and naps for about five hours a day still!

She takes her first nap 3 hours after she wakes.
I'm trying to get her to take one nap now since her 2nd nap causes her to stay awake until 8:30pm!
She went down at 6:17pm today because she only had one nap and she went swimming! :)

My LO is 6 months and she is usually awake 1 hour before she is ready for her next nap. She is usually up 1.5 to 2 hours after her third nap before bedtime but she is really struggling. I've tried keeping her up longer than an hour and she does not nap well if we do that. She is the typical "easy" baby and won't get upset if we keep her up but then she'll have short naps/early awakenings. So I'd rather respect her natural sleep signs and put her down when she is tired and allow her to nap 1.5-2 hours rather than 20-30 minutes

Olive is a week from being 8 months old, but her sleep is more like a baby under 6 months old. She goes down for her first nap after an hour and a half, and then she goes down for her 2nd nap, 3rd nap, and bedtime after 2 hours. Sometimes she can't even make it to 2 hours!

How old is your LO, and how long are they awake between naps?
