Mine can last a week. We try not to go that long but with the holiday week she didn't use all of the expressed milk because she was with me breastfeeding. It smelled ok and tasted ok.

@regberadaisy: if its getting chunky, you might want to taste some and see if it tastes like soap to check for extra lipase. I cant leave mine for more tha 26 hours before it starts getting chunky and tastes totally funky. So if it gets to 24 hours or I know itll be longer, I scald and then freeze it, even if it is only for like a day or 3

@Thehistoryofus: yup we keep it in the back. It's not just separating like in layers. It got a little chunky and just did not look right to me.

Its ok if it separates! You just have to swirl it back together. The best test for bad milk is the sniff test. It will smell bad! Also make sure you are storing in the back of the fridge where it is staying cool (not in the door for example).

Edit - We have kept milk in the fridge for a full week and its been fine!

Most sources say up to 5 days but I don't believe that.

I typically don't like it to sit in the fridge more than 24 hours. At that point I put it up in the freezer even if I know I'll use it within the next 36 hours.
Friday I pumped at work and left the milk all in the fridge because we had a wedding on Saturday. She did not drink all the pumped milk so I thought oh she'll drink it Monday. 3 days should be fine since most sources say up to 5 days. Well this morning I go to check it and it's all clumpy!! Ugh I wasted 3oz! I should have trusted my own instinct and threw it up in the freezer Saturday night.
