As soon as I graduated I was cut off though! So since 22. I've been living off of student loans (professional school) for four gets and just started my career about 6 months ago. While I was 16 I paid my own car payment and some of my insurance and gas 90% of the time. My parents still bought my food though. I graduated with my masters at 22 and lived with them until I was 23 when I got married. However my parents paid for my car, my mom would buy me groceries and take me clothes shopping every once in awhile. I had a very hard time and ended up hospitalized for depression, and they basically cut me off after that. I was 21 or so? I always felt my parents should spend their money on themselves and there was no reason to give me handouts if I could support myself. I worked as a bartender throughout my 7 years of post secondary and never needed student loans or help from my parents. It taught me a lot of independence and I wouldn't have had it any other way. I knew if I needed help they would be there for me but I wanted to try and do it by myself and I did. They were as helpful and supportive as they could be beyond that though. I was 26 at the time. During grad school, my parents paid for my apartment. Once I started working, I was on my own and have been since. They also made the offer that if I really, really needed help with rent right after I moved out they would help, but I never needed it. </p> <p>That said... I'm still on their cell phone family plan and never remember to send them the check for my teeny portion :) </p>
