My friend made me a quilt, so I didn't buy any bedding. She made two separate ones though, one is crib sized (which we don't really need, it just sits on the glider), and the other is for a toddler bed, along with a pillow sham.

@cyneswith: sounds like your machine could use a tune-up! They're not very much (less than $50)

@cyneswith: If its a theme you want to carry on through toddler hood then it'll definitely work for the toddler bed!

I kept & used DS's as an extra blanket until he was too long for it! Pre-K Jammie day it went with him and then it also became useful for tents around the house!

I say it's got as much worth as you want it too! :)

@Coco Bee: I would do that if my sewing machine didn't crap out on me every other time I used it. I just can't get the tension on this machine right. Trying to get a quilt finished for my cousin (all but the binding was hand-sewn), and the bobbin thread spazzes out every 10 stitches or so!

We skipped the crib bedding. We bought the breathable bumpers and we have several fitted sheets. My MawMaw made a quilt for DS and it is large enough for him to use when we make the switch to a toddler bed.

It was always to my understanding that baby bedding could be used for a toddler bed! I plan on using mine as long as I can and even then: you could sell it or hand it down to another child if you have more.

Plus: my mom used to send the quilt with my brother when he was in kindergarten for nap time!!! They brought their own blankies and he just took his crib quilt.

I didn't see the point of spending the money. DS got two quilts as gifts from his great grandma and great great aunt, I made him the crib skirt and I'm making his crib sheet. That's all he needs. We hardly use the quilts. We use one as a playmat on his floor, but not for covering up. He is swaddled twice for naps/night so he doesn't even need extra warmth. (nor should they be covered with a blanket for safety reasons)

It was A LOT cheaper for me to customize the skirt myself, and that way I got the theme/look I wanted. If you own a sewing machine - making a skirt is SO easy. It only took me a couple hours

Our crib will convert to a toddler bed. Also, the more expensive set is the theme we want to use until our kid is in a normal bed. Hoping to hear a few more opinions before I decide for sure!

It depends on the type of crib you have. If it converts into a toddler bed then you can keep using the bedding even after converting it

We bought a set, actually I picked one out and my parents gifted it to us, but it's totally not useful at all. We kept the skirt on until we had to lower the crib, the quilt is hanging on the wall and we do use the bumper (started after rolling was established). Thing is, we'll do a totally different theme for a toddler room anyway, so it was money down the drain.

We didn't buy a crib bedding set. I didn't see the point in spending the money when we probably wouldn't use the pieces. We ended up receiving two crib sized quilts as shower gifts and never used either even after we started letting LO use a blanket. We just moved her into a twin bed and took down our crib this weekend (will be putting the crib back up in Sept when #2 arrives) but probably won't be using the crib quilts then either.

Will a crib set be useful through toddler-hood? Or is it only going to be useful until we change to a toddler bed?

I really like a particular crib set, but it is $80 more than my second option. If I have to use a different quilt for a toddler, then I can't justify the additional expense.
