i started feeling kicks early on, like around 16 weeks. my ob was a little surprised, and said they don't typically expect regular movement until 28 weeks. that's when you start the kick counts.

she said, until then, if i went a day without feeling anything, it could just be the position of the baby because the uterus is still fairly low. but if there was no movement for 2 days in a row, then i'd have to call.

@swedishfish: be careful. I was told at that stage if you can't get kicks to come in. I forget what the # per hour is but I would call the on-call and ask.

Thanks, ladies! I will have to try some of the tricks later or tomorrow. I haven't felt anything yet but maybe LO changed positions or is making up for my lack of sleep by sleeping longer.

I'm 23 weeks (also with an anterior placenta) and my doctor said it was completely normal to go hours or even days without feeling the baby. She said that sometimes he just isn't kicking hard enough to be felt through the placenta (and sometimes he's just being lazy!)

My midwife said it's still too early to rely on feeling them all the time. That that is for a month or two from delivery. Ish. That being said, whatever calms your mind is best! I go nuts over baby movement sometimes and he so far has always schooled my pretty soon after with big old bladder and bellybutton kicks. :)

@swedishfish: another thing to try is a very hot drink and then a very cold drink to see if the temperature gets baby moving!

@Anagram: I had the same experience-- during the 19 week ultrasound I could see it kicking away at me, and I couldn't feel it at all. Basically I only feel when it's something very low and off to the side, so far.

I would say drink something sugary and see if that helps. If you are at all concerned call your dr or go to the ER. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I'm 21 weeks and I felt baby moving very early, and very regularly. Then I went 3 days feeling nothing and started to freak. I already had a scheduled appointment for that Tuesday, so I just waited it out, but I started convincing myself that something was wrong.

And then everything was normal! Heartbeat was fine, baby was moving around, but I just wasn't feeling it. My doctor said since it was still early, that I might not feel baby in certain positions, and that we wouldn't need to worry until much later, and that he would tell me at a later appointment when I need to start really paying attention to how often that baby moves.

When I had my Anatomy ultrasound, I watched really carefully and sometimes the baby would be moving arms and feet and I wouldn't feel anything....and then other time the baby would move slightly more and I would feel it majorly.

I also have an anterior placenta.

If you're worried, I would try drinking some juice and lying on your left side. If you don't get any kicks or are still worried, I'd try calling L&D and see what they think! It can't hurt to call!

@Foodnerd81: maybe I'll drink some OJ and see if that gets the baby going. I'm sure I'm being a worrywart.

I am 25 weeks pregnant and I've been feeling the baby kick every afternoon/evening for a few weeks now (I have an anterior placenta). But I haven't felt the baby move at all today. I'm hoping LO is just sleeping late as it's dinnertime where I live. Does anyone know how much time between baby kicks is normal?
