Thanks everyone!

I ended up bringing him in today. The problem with my pediatrician's office is I get different answers depending on which nurse answers the phone. I called to ask how long the cold should last, and the nurse said 7 days was too long, bring him in. I brought him in and our pediatrician (who I love) said he's fine, sometimes these colds can last for 3 weeks.

@luckypenny: 8 weeks!! I feel so bad for all of you, that sounds miserable :( Glad she is better!

I started a similar thread about a week ago...DD has had a cough/runny nose for about 6 weeks. We finally gave antibiotics out of desperation and 3 separate doctor visits where they couldn't give us any answers (she was coughing so hard and frequently she couldn't sleep at night and vomited as a result of coughing several times) and those didn't help either. I'd say now at 8 weeks out the cough is finally gone. It was just some crappy cold :( Hope your LO feels better soon!

I'd say about a week... LO had a cold and it turned into a sinus infection (we noticed her cough/runny nose got worse after a week).

B's cold (croupe) lasted about 2 weeks. The worst of it was only 3 days or so, but he had a lingering cough/stuffiness for well over a week.

I would just call your LO's pediatrician and see what they say. Hope your LO feels better soon!

My ped also said 7-10 days. When I took dd in for her nine month appt I got in shit because she had been sick for two weeks at that point, and he put her on antibiotics. She's still not better after the full course so I'm calling them today.

@Pepper: I would call to ask them. My ped said a cold should last 7-10 days.

Chloe's first cold turned into a sinus infection that needed two courses of antibiotics!

Well, L hasn't had a cold yet *thankfully*!

But for me, 2 weeks is about normal. I hate it! DH gets over colds in a few days, but I have them for 2 weeks.

I, personally, would wait it out for 2 weeks as long as there wasn't a fever involved and the symptoms stay pretty true to a cold. Congested, runny nose. Otherwise, I would take him in if anything weird started to happen!

Our pediatrician told me is normal to have a cold for 10-14 days usually. That's been pretty true for DS.

C has had a cold for 7 days now. It started with a mild cough/sneezing, and then he became very congested, with a croupy cough at night (lasted for 2 days). Now the nasty cough is gone and he doesn't sound as congested at night, but he's still coughing/sneezing with green snot (sorry).

He doesn't have a fever, and hasn't had one this entire time. If he's not considerably better by tomorrow, I'm going to take him into the pediatrician, because I worry about it becoming an infection. How long do your LO's colds last? When do you take them to the doctor, versus riding it out at home?

ETA: He's 8 months.
