Oh man this is tough for us in 800 sq ft with one bathroom. If it's someone who doesnt' require non stop conversation and actually pays their own way, I don't mind a few nights. But because of where we live we tend to get visitors who plan a 'marathon NYC' trip and totally aren't prepared to spend the money necessary to go out here, even though lodging is 'free'.

2-3 days for me too! We had friends stay a weekend with their 2 kids....one of which was a very active toddler who they did not discipline or say no to...so yes, I was ready for them to go home after 3 days!

As a person who is still recovering from a 2 week visit from the ILs, I think I started to get uncomfortable and want my home back to myself after about 4 days. I was ready to explode by the time they left.

By the same token we flew to see my family on Sat and are staying with my parents. We fly home tomorrow night. I love my family and I love my parents getting to spend time with H, but I'm ready to go home today. Tomorrow I'll be like REALLY REALLY ready to go!

My mom was upset we weren't staying through the weekend but I'm pretty positive I'd go batshit crazy if we were.

A weekend is enough for me. But we had guests in our apartment for a week or more when I had horrible, horrible HORRIBLE morning sickness and when I was 39 weeks preg. Not easy in a one bedroom apartment and a box room.

DH gets antsy anything beyond 2 days. But where we live now, there is only one bathroom and it is attached to our bedroom. Awkward! If we had another bathroom I would be fine for a week or so. DH would still prefer 2 days, ha.

@Bookworm: Excellent. This was tough to do, but secondhand smoke is extremely dangerous for newborns. After they leave, air the house out. I did for LO's nursery because I didn't want him sleeping in there with the smoky smell.

@cascademom: I will be! There is already a no smoking in the house rule, but they still make my entire house smell bad. I'll be having a serious talk with them about if if they intend on being around LO!

@Bookworm: My inlaws smoke as well. Dare I say, be tough on them about secondhand smoke and the baby like they can't smoke in the house and have to have smoke free clothing when holding the baby.

Inlaws: no more than 4 days. They've stayed twice recently 5-7 days at a tick. Before the MIL visit from hell, she looked at flights where she would stay 11 days. Hell to the naw on that!

Friends: a week. I can handle friends visits better because they're less demanding and needy as guests.

Hahaha like ONE day if it's my in-laws, because they smoke up the place something awful. Luckily with LO coming I have a good excuse to tell them to stay with the other kid they have in town :p If it's my dad and his fiancee, a few days is good.

About 4 days for family, more for friends. Especially someone like my college roommate. It also depends if they are out of the house/doing their own thing or literally with us 24/7

I subscribe to Franklin's philosophy- fish and visitors smell in 3 days if it is a visit where I need to be "on" the while time. My mil for example though could stay two weeks before I would be sick of her, she happily does her own thing and is helpful to us. I have a friend from college who might not last 3 days though...

I thought I would add that I hate staying as a house guest for longer then 3 days too- I like having my space!
