It really depends. My mom stayed with us for 4 months and I wasn't ready for her to go! She was so much help and gets along well with DH. There are some friends who are like family and will just go to the refrigerator and help themselves (and won't even notice if there's a dust bunny on the floor). They can stay for a long time. But if I have to be on my p's and q's, pull out our good dishes and worry all the time, 4 days would be my max.

depends on the guest, friends maybe a long weekend, my mom can stay for weeks. Maybe if our house was larger it would be less challenging!

My mom stays a night here or there. At first I wasn't so sure about it as I like to do everything myself, but she insists on staying to keep my company and help out with whatever when my husband is on business trips. The longest was two weeks.
We recently moved into a new house and my cousins from NY when visiting has hinted about staying with us. At the time we didn't finish furnishing the guest room yet, now it's done but I'm not really ready for them :silly:
Next summer, with baby #2 coming, in laws might be visiting for a month or two to see both kids for the very first time. eeekkk.

Maybe 3-4 days? I've never had family stay with me and actually help much, so guests tend to be more of a stressful burden than anything.

My college roommate could probably come for weeks, though, and I wouldn't mind!

I am fine with having guests as long as they pull their weight. My inlaws routinely stay for 2 weeks and they help soooo much....my MIL cooks dinner, does the laundry, etc. My FIL paints, this year, he did the deck and the front and back door. They're not obligated to do so, but I am not complaining.

It depends. If they have their own plans in between the visit, then they're more than welcome to stay longer (I'd say 2 weeks). If they expect us to usher them around for everything, then 3 days would be too long.

My mom and aunts visited a few years ago and they stayed for 2 weeks and it was fine. But they planned a trip out of town in between their stay and another trip during the end of their stay, so they weren't at my place for longer than 4 days in a row. It was the perfect mix of being able to show them around and getting some breathing room in between.

I really do not enjoy house guests unless it's one of my very closest friends.

I had a horrible experience with houseguests about 1.5 years ago. My husband's friend came with his wife for a little over a week. I barely knew them. The husband turned out to be a misogynist, and the wife behaved like a teenager the entire time. They fought the entire time, and the husband kept trying to foist the wife off on me because he didn't want to hang out with her. She also kept forgetting to lock our front door when she came home. They are not invited back, and I am glad that they live on a different continent because I have no interest in seeing them ever again.

We had some relatives stay with us from Europe. I knew them slightly better, but not too well. But they were terrific houseguests and super polite.

We now have two cats, and we keep the litter box in the shower of the guest bathroom. And the guest room is now the baby's room. So, we are no longer really set up for guests. I am not too broken up about it.

It really depends on who it is. My dad recently came to visit for two weeks (from across the ocean), and it was mostly fine. However, after about 3 days with the inlaws, I'm done! Friends are different, we've had people come for up to a week and I usually enjoy the company.

We have never had long term visitors, but we have been the long term visitors. We travelled across country for five weeks this summer, and by the end, even we were ready to come home. Three weeks was our breaking point.

It depends on who it is, but for most guests I would say 3 days/nights. I have some friends who could easily stay longer than that and it wouldn't feel too long at all, but in general I'm ready to have my apartment back after about 3 nights. Granted, my apartment is teeny tiny so that's a big factor.
