I agree with everyone. I keep post-poning without major issues, but three weeks definitely seems like long enough for it to be real.

I would go too. Especially since he isn't usually so "out of sorts". Colin rarely shows the classic signs for ear infections - we have been surprised a few times with them at well-checks, because his "off" symptoms were never serious or major enough to warrant a visit on their own. Worst that happens is you are out a co-pay and they tell you "this too shall pass"

Go! Your doc will be glad you came in. It's always better that it's nothing than something lingering. I always used to wait too long when I just had G and it would end up so much worse by the time I took him in. I think maybe only once or twice it was nothing (at the time), but led to something bigger.

@Cherrybee: That's how Elliot is! He's my little guy that is sensitive to everything: teething, sleep regressions, developmental milestones. Finn, however, usually rolls right through those things without missing a beat.

I think you should go asap. What harm would it do? None. But the alternative - to hold off and then find he does have an infection - just prolongs his misery (if indeed he has misery/infection).

That said, in answer to your question, I wait a long time because E is always "off". Teeth, Wonder Weeks, coughs, colds.... I'm more concerned when she's happy!

When your kid is acting off and not themselves but isn't having any major symptoms, what do you do? How long do you wait?

F has been off for almost 3 weeks. He's fussy and clingy, which is completely unlike him. He's normally my social, full of life little guy and this last week, everyone kept asking me if E was my happy, social twin. He has had a snotty nose, but no fever or other major symptoms. His sleep is fine. Eating hasn't been great, but he is eating and drinking some.

At what point do I give up and take him to the doctor just to make sure there's no lurking ear infection, etc?
