LO is in no shoes at home but wears her toms outside. I feel like she would get hurt on sticks and things with soft soles?

I never put L in soft-soled shoes - I guess that's why she fell so much? :bummed:

She was walking for a good 3 months before I even put any shoes on her, so that's why I didn't start with soft-soled (and Grandma bought the tennis shoes, so I didn't want to go buy a separate pair). If she had started walking while it was warm out, I probably would have started with the soft-soled...

We didn't use the soft soled Robeez for long, the elastic was too binding on my sons thick foot. So we used the Robeez Mini shoes then went to a pair of walker shoes by stride rite.

LO started walking around 15 months, and she's barefoot at home, wears pediped or stride rite at daycare, and outside, she's been wearing rubber boots. We've got another pair of pediped for her for the summer, and a couple of pairs of running shoes (just Joe Fresh brand, nothing fancy) for the summer. All of those are the next size up (so I hope come summer, she can wear them!). Pedipeds are nice and flexible, so maybe they're a good compromise if you want them to be more protected outside?

@blackbird: Same! After a couple months of walking, she needed the hard soled for grass, concrete, playground, etc. She still wears some soft depends on her outfit. I feel more comfortable with her in hard soled for day care.

E started walking 2+ months ago and we took her to a shoe store....they told us she could graduate to the main level shoes. They're designed to be like barefoot style shoes but they aren't soft soled, so they are good for foot development. I find that she needs more structure to her shoes now because of concrete, grass, etc. She wouldn't walk on them before and now she will, if she has real shoes on. And she would take the soft soled ones off and chew on them. Lovely.

She's got a pair of these, plus some stride rite sandals, plus some timberlake sandals, plus some soft soled leather robeez....so she gets a variety

We kept Alexis in her soft-soles until she grew out of them if we weren't heading anywhere wet or grubby. She walked at eleven months and grew out of them at around fifteen months or so.

I'm trying to keep her in them as long as possible. She wears mostly moccasins (there are some affordable brands on Etsy that make great quality, try ShopMiniMoxie or LittleDesignCo), and she has a pair of soft-soled Livie and Luca shoes. Also there's See Kai Run.

I liked Robeez mini shoez for my son. They have a slightly more structures, slip resistant sole. After he grew out if those around 13 months, we moved into regular shoes.

@Dagny: we kept him in soft soles as long as possible. his robeez held up fine at the park, and we transitioned to the leather sole pedipeds once it got wett-er. he grew out of the 18-24m size around 15 months and we transitioned into the softer see kai run, and just now into more traditional rubber soles at almost 17 months.

My LO is 12 mo and has been walking for two months now, but has been an exclusive walker for about two weeks. He only has a pair of Robeez that he wears outside, but I think we need to get him a second pair of shoes. Pedipeds look pretty structured, so I'm considering another pair of Robeez. How long did you keep your new walker in soft soled shoes? How long until they could wear structured shoes?
