@daniellemybelle: this is kind of what I was thinking. She already gets 17hrs sleep in a 24hr period which seems like a lot!

I never wake her from naps, but it rarely goes more than 2 hours. Usually its closer to 40 minutes. If you're comfortable letting her sleep longer, I'd go for it -even to give yourself a bit of a break!

@illumina: Since I know you are having supply issues, and your LO's weight hasn't been great, I think keeping naps to 2 hrs is a good idea. 4 hours is the longest I'd go during the day without nursing if I were you. If you want to let her sleep, I'd say nurse right before she goes down, but we do EASY so it's usually already been 1.5-2 hrs since she ate when she goes down for a nap.

I don't like letting her sleep more than 2hrs so she's not going too long between feeds. Though based on the advice here, I'll try feeding her again closer to her lunchtime nap and seeing how long she'll nap for!

Let her sleep! I have never woken Sadie unless we had to leave. She's taken naps that lasted until after 7pm, but I never woke her up. She still slept fine that night. If they are sleeping, it's because they're tired. :)

I don't wake her up... She usually does an hour in the morning (10-11), 2-3 hours in the aftn (1:30-4:00) and then a cat nap (7:00-8:00) before bed at 9:30.

Today's naps are all crapped up though because we had a library group at 10:15 so she just started napping at 11:30. We will see how that affects her aftn nap !

My LO is 3 months & I usually wake her up after 2 hours so she will stay on her routine. But normally she wakes herself up after 1-1.5 hours.

at 4 months, DS would take a 1.5 hour nap in the morning, a 3 hour nap in the afternoon, and another 1.5 hour nap in the early evening.

I never wake for naps either, but every baby is different. Sleep really begot sleep for my LO, especially at that age, so I always let her nap as long as she would, and it never really impacted bedtime. Now, at 1yo, it's a little different, but I still try to never wake her from a nap. I figure her body knows best!

I never wake her up for naps! Once she took a 4 hour nap around that age. She still slept the same at night too. I found if she wasn't getting enough sleep she was sleeping worse!

I never woke DS up from naps. I figured if he was napping it's because he needed the sleep. Sometimes the more sleep they get during the day the better they sleep at night, but of course every baby is different.

i'm deciding whether to be incredibly jealous that your 4 month old can nap for so long! i think there's a wide range with baby sleep needs. i don't think you have to wake her up though, unless it's necessary. who knows, maybe she'll take a doozy of a midday nap and not have another one. i'm biased on the not waking up thing, though, simply because my LO was stuck on 45-minute naps for a long time. i would have given my right arm for 2-hour naps at that age.

I only ever woke her if it was going long and getting to close to bedtime- and even that first I tried not waking her and seeing what happened. So I would happily let her go to three hours, by four, if it ever got there, I'd be worried about it messin up night sleep it's really all trial and error. Maybe let her go and see what happens.

I realise we may still be in the middle of the 4mth regression, but for the last couple of weeks LO's awake time is around 2hrs and she naps for 30mins (exactly!) sometime between 9-10, then around 11.30-12.30 she'll go down for her lunch time nap. I always end up waking her after 2hrs otherwise I have no idea how long she'd nap for!

Then her afternoon nap is similar. I end up waking her after 1.5hrs so bedtime isn't too late.

Is this normal?
