@mediagirl: @twogirls: @Thehistoryofus: thanks for the feedback, ladies! i have been getting away with two pumping sessions a day this whole time, which has helped. Maybe I will try going down to one tomorrow or the few days I am at work next week. I am hoping to start the transition after christmas, but was thinking about 2 oz at a time--LO currently gets 8 oz of breastmilk in her cup. We got rid of the bottles already so we don't have to worry about that.

Did anyone stop cold turkey? It is tempting...

At 9m I dropped one of my 3 at work pumping sessions, when DD hit 1y I completely stopped pumping during the day but continued to nurse morning/evening. I wasn't producing very much for the pump (3-4oz total per day) so I just stopped cold turkey and didn't have any problems. If you are pumping a fair amount reduce by one session a day over the course of several weeks.

I really had a hard time putting down the pump when my LO turned a year. I still wanted to nurse her morning and night and I was afraid that by stopping pumping I would loose all of my milk.

I agree with the PP and go about it gradually. Go from 3 pumpings to 2 and then down to one as needed.

I started weaning my pump sessions when my LO was 11 months. It took my body 2 months to stop producing. I pumped 4 sessions and reducing 1 each week. I thought I would be done in 1 month but even at 1 pump a day I would still get engorged. So it took 2 months for my body to stop fully. During the pump wean, I mixed the bm with whole milk for my LO. 1oz wm for the first week I started dropping session, 2oz wm the 2nd week n so forth and by the 2nd month she was on full 8oz of wholemilk. now she is refusing milk because I took the bottle away.

@MamaCate: If you're ready to stop day pumping, can you slowly drop one pump a day from your schedule? If you normally pump at 9, 12 and 3, maybe spread them out a bit and pump at 10:30 and 2? Do that for a couple of weeks, then cut down to 1?

Hi ladies,

I am hoping for some help and advice. My LO turned one last week (yay!) and I am trying to figure out the best plan for transitioning her off breastmilk and onto whole milk during the day.

I am a FT WOHM so I have been pumping since she was 12 weeks old. It is hard to believe. My original plan was to pump until christmas as we are traveling, and then transition to whole milk between christmas and new years when she will be home with DH.

I recently moved from a shared office to my own office, however, which makes the pumping logistics much simpler, and I have been second guessing this plan. I am fine continuing to nurse morning and evening, but thought I would be ready to stop day nursing and pumping by now.

Any advice? Anyone else been in this situation? I'd love to hear different perspectives to help me figure out what makes sense for us!
Thanks!
