Lately dd has been much better but we went through periods of 30-60 minutes for we to fall asleep and I had to sit in the room... I have no idea what's normal.

DD falls asleep fairly quickly during the week with my mom but she doesn't nap as easily for us on the weekends. I leave her with books and it usually takes her 10-20 minutes to fall asleep. I think it's OK for them to need some time to unwind. :happy:

Yeah, sometimes it takes LO quite a while to fall asleep... he alternates between rolling around/standing in his crib talking to himself and fussing. I think the main thing is that they're able to fall asleep on their own. We leave the room immediately after putting him in his sleep sack.

Usually it's pretty quick, but on days like today, where his dad put him to bed for a nap, he cried for almost 20 mins!!

@BKCaribBaby: what you described would be a dream for me! i have to stay with LO until he falls alseep and 20 minutes (including nursing) is what i consider a good day!

up until a couple of weeks ago it was very easy to get him down for his morning naps, like he would be out almost instantly. afternoon it was hit or miss. lately though, morning, noon and night, it is an exhausting process. i am just reminding myself "this too shall pass". my LO is 12 months.

I think that they need more time to unwind before some naps. I think it's fine and I take advantage of this extra time.

@hilsy85: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I was just concerned because it took her almost 40 minutes this morning, and she was super fussy. Either way, I'm glad she's asleep now.

@photojane: I think you're right. Thank you!

I think it's totally fine! Some days she might just need extra time to unwind/relax, you know?

My guess is that as long as she's falling asleep on her own then it doesn't matter how long it takes. Sometimes Sadie likes to play with her blankie and roll around for a bit before going to sleep, and other times she will pass right out.

I don't know if this is a bad thing or not, but LO often takes a really long time falling asleep for her naps. We essentially have a rule of only being in the room for five minutes or less and leaving. Then it's up to her to fall asleep on her own. She does have a bit of a routine, but for whatever reason it can take her up to 20 minutes plus to fall asleep. Some days she's asleep before I even leave the room (then I leave quickly). Is this normal? She'll be 8 months next week. I just feel like I hear that some kids just conk out immediately, so I'm just wondering. Also she does have a schedule especially since she is down to two naps now, so I don't think it's a scheduling issue per se.
