And to be honest, it was just a spur of the moment decision because I was so frustrated that DD would fall asleep rocking at the boob but would wake up when put in the swing. So, I put her in there and walked into another room. I called my husband and cried while she cried because I was just frustrated but didn't know what to do. After 45 minutes she fell asleep. The only checks I did was look into the room to make sure she was ok. It's HARD to do but you need to be ready to do it. If we got to 30 minutes, I got them up and tried again in 45ish minutes. They always crashed immediately.<br /> Nap training was the hardest thing I ever did...but it was so worth it! She ends up sleeping for a long time after so it's worth it but I hate it. Hard crying I won't let her go more than ten minutes. </p> <p>But honestly I'm still mostly nursing to sleep at this point for naps, since I hear it is harder for then to fall asleep for naps. At that age we did *whatever* we had to to get dd to nap. I think it's a developmental thing that they have to grow out of At that age. My LO lengthened on his own around 5.5 months. I don't know I checks would help that young because I don't think object permanence develops that early. We did CIO for bedtime and night wakings at 5.5 months, so I'm all for CIO, but naps are a different story.... I did an Isis sleep consultation and they said naps don't consolidate (ie organize/get easier/etc) until closer to 6 months, so I haven't even thought to do CIO before then. IMO i think an hour is too long at that age. How did he do? Did he end up falling asleep? The checks might also make things worse...</p> <p>I didnt really nap train, but sleep trained at night, so I know how hard it is hearing them cry :( for what its worth- I nursed my LO to sleep for 8/9 months for naps and then one day she magically went down on her own after crying for 3 mins, and I've been able to put her down awake since then. I think she was just ready at that point. But during the day, my other son is in school so it is my chance to nap train.</p> <p>I am still trying to put lo down for his nap. He has been crying for 40 min (with me doing checks 5, 10, 10, min). </p> <p>How long is too long for a CIO nap? I was prepared to wait up to an hour...but is that too long at his age?</p> <p>It's so hard to decide because I hate hearing him cry but know that he won't sleep on his own. So far I've had to nurse until he's fully asleep and then transfer him. </p>
