We have been lucky in this department.. She latched immediately after being born and hasn't had any trouble since.

LO was about 10 weeks when it finally stopped hurting. He had a bad latch even though I saw an LC several times. I honestly think he had (and still has) a very small mouth that doesn't open like a crocodile, so it was hard for him to get the boob in properly.

we had a super hard time, but i'd say at the 4 month mark things were more settled! :)

i think it hurt A LOT until about 3.5 months. like, crazy wincing/practically crying every latch at every feed. i thought it would never end.....

I feel like it's constantly evolving. At 2 weeks it was better than at birth; 6 weeks was better than 2 weeks. We had problems from 9-11 weeks and from 5-7 months, but at 8 months things are the best they have been (so far).

I feel like we had the hang of it pretty instantly, but there was still some discomfort for a week or so.

Instantly with DS, but about 2 weeks for DD. She had latch issues. I picked 1-2 weeks in your poll, but we didn't get the hang of tandem nursing without someone around to help me position them until about 3 weeks.

It took me at least 3 months. We had every single problem imaginable - bad latch, milk came in late, low supply, thrush (for 8 wks straight), mastitis (twice) - and it wasn't until L was 3 or 4 months old that I really felt like we *finally* got the hang of it. I really took it day by day (some days, feeding by feeding) and just made it my goal to get through one more day.

Now we're going strong at 15 months :)

It's really hard for me to pin a time b/c we had LOTS of issues!
-Tongue tie till 7 weeks
-Oversupply the first 4 months
-Eliminating different foods until we finally figured them all out at 5 mths

Considering tongue tie feedings were horrible for awhile! I guess though that it was probably week 4-5 that I was *happy* breastfeeding & felt confident we'd get everything else worked out.

With DD, we got it from the first latch. She did amazingly.

With DS (and the second kid), we kind of got the hang of it by 3 weeks, after sore bloody nipples, mastitis, and a poor latch. But, it never ever got better and by 3 months we stopped (supply issues, not a great latch, little weight gain). I was super disappointed.

I want to say eight weeks at which time Miss A had had both her tongue and lip tie clipped and nursing definitely got manageable for the long term but even at four months we were still having trouble (mainly due to teething!).

Now that A is almost eight months old I would say nursing is pain free ninety percent of the time.

8 weeks- I was still crying over it at 6 weeks. It took 6 months to really get comfortable and be able to figure out the side laying position. After that I could sleep and nurse at the same time and life got awesome.

Honestly we had every problem possible from latch issues to over supply to fast let down to extreme fussiness at the breast along with the normal engorgement and soreness. I voted six weeks but it was more like three months for me :-/

I'm incredibly lucky in that baby latched on in the hospital and it's been going well ever since (she's 6 weeks on Sunday). I picked 2-3 because the first couple of weeks were a little trying with the cracked and bleeding nipples and engorgement.
