Fussing I don't have a limit on. They are just talking, complaining.

Crying? I don't believe in letting young babies cry, so I would go in instantly.

I think you are on the road to regression land, friend. At that age, LO was sleeping 9pm-5am most nights, feeding & then back to sleep until 9am! Then she started fussing & generally being wakeful at night... and I started nursing her back to sleep... and before you knew it, I was up with her every hour...

We ended up sleep training (multiple times). I'm not sure if I would do anything differently if I could do it again. I'm in the camp that whatever "sleep habits" you set up before the 4 month regression don't matter and you either grin & bear it or sleep train.

My daughter was a pretty laid back nighttime sleeper too. Basically, if it was keeping me up more than 5 mins or so, I'd go deal with it. She took a pacifier, so usually all it took was a pacifier and turning on her white noise to put her back to sleep.

Generally I only went in when he cried. That being said his fussing didn't ever last long. He'd either end up crying or fall back asleep. Ds also stern 12 hours around three months. We went through a few days of four month regression but then he went back to his sleep schedule. He's 22 months now and we only have trouble w sleep when he's teething or sick. Good luck!

@runnerd: We sleep trained at 11 weeks. One of the reasons we did was because we believed she showed us that she definitely could sleep through the night, so we wanted to ride that wave before the 4 month sleep regression hit in full force.

Whether you want to go that route is entirely up to you. I just want to say that I personally wouldn't go in unless the baby was actually crying...and we did CIO for three nights to sleep train and I have zero regrets. She was not traumatized in any way from it. She doesn't hesitate to cry if something is wrong (foot caught between the bars, dirty diaper, etc.) but since we sleep trained, we put her down awake and she goes down without a fight and sleeps 11.5 hours every night.

I hope this isn't the case for you but that type of behaviour lead directly to the 4 month regression for us :( We had been having about 6-7 weeks of one wakeup around 4am, and then he started getting restless at 1am (but would eventually fall back to sleep) and then full on wakeup at 3am and then again at 5 or 6. This then became a wakeup for food at 12/1am, wakeup at 3am and wakeup at 5/6am, which lasted for about 6 week (though we also dealt with jetlag from an Australia to Canada trip, so that threw everything out of whack). I would say use your gut - i think you'll know when your little one needs to feed, rather than just fuss it out.

We did the 15 minute rule. I waited at least 15 minutes after she started making noise. If she was fussing, but sounded otherwise not upset... I just left her. If she started crying, Id go in.

I always followed this chart. https://docs.google.com/document/d/113qditjNZnD_c08SH5fVItXs9TtTxSL2ystFQJjd44I/edit?usp=sharing

It says 10 minutes. I'd also get you are getting ready to go through the 4 month regression, my child was never a sleeper so I have no advice. =/

Our little guy has been sleeping 10+ hours for about a month, rarely waking up enough to wake me up. He's just over 3 months (14 weeks), and the past two nights he has woke up and done what I'd describe as rolling around and fussing, with a few half-hearted yells mixed in. The first night he did this off and on for 1.5 hours until I went in and got him back to sleep around 4am (I kept thinking he had surely fallen asleep cause he wasn't being very loud). Last night he did this for about 30min around 3:30am. He is super happy to see me when I walk in, and falls back to sleep pretty quick with a bottle. All that to say, I'm not sure what's making him wake up (growth spurt), but when do you consider it necessary to go in?

Before he STTN, he always woke up hysterical, so there was no doubt on whether I needed to check on him, and since he's a little bigger, Im not sure what constitutes him needing me.
