Then it was normal period cramping during that time of month. I didn't get period cramps before the iud though. However the heavy bleeding was a huge PITA! I should've take my SIL's advice and gotten it soon as PP. I didn't get it until I started my period again almost a year PP. The heavy bleeding lasted over a year. I'm glad I work at home otherwise, I would've had a lot of embarrassing mishaps with overflow. I just wanted to stay home and hide away during the heavy days. My ob said that in many cases heavy periods and cramping lasts as long as the iud is in :(<br /> I went for mirena after that news, I was really reluctant about the hormonal aspect of it, but it is localized so better than the pill in that respect. I will not go back on HBC, so this really needs to work. I'm not getting my period yet since I'm EBF, so I'm not sure what my normal will be when AF does finally return. For now it's ok since the heavy bleeding has stopped. When I was researching it, I read a number of complaints of random heavy bleeding for the first 3 months. I had an unexplained fever twice in the last 6 weeks, but they thought it was unrelated. I may have them remove it at the next appointment. The constant cramping and monster periods (very heavy and 10 days long) are a nuissance. Im about to take a week long beach vacation and will be heavily bleeding for the entire trip. UGH.</p> <p>Did any of this ever go away for you, or was it always this bad?</p> <p>The main reasons i got it were because i dont like taking a pill daily and hormonal birth control eliminates my sex drive. But 10 day long periods and constant cramping dont put me in the mood either!! </p>
