We went into the hospital to begin induction Wednesday morning, the baby was born by c-section Saturday morning, and we went home Monday afternoon. I think the normal stay after a c-section is 3 nights, but since we had already been at the hospital 3 nights before the birth, my doctor gave us the option of going home after 2 nights. If we had wanted to stay an extra night, she would have let us, but we were ready to get out of there!

@Mrsbells: congratulations 🍾

I was in the hospital for four days total, which was planned. I felt great and was walking as soon as I could feel my legs again, which was some point later that night. The hospital food was good and since I really had no strength and was scared of pulling something with on my top half I didn’t mind being in the hospital.

C-section was Sunday night (unplanned), discharged on Wednesday, although my dr offered to let me leave on Tuesday. I was up and walking about 4 hours after surgery as well (just to the bathroom, at the nurses suggestion).

First baby, 4 days. We had to get her weight up so even though I had no desire to leave early it wasn’t an option.

Second baby, we left after 3 days. Her weight was great and just felt sort of like as second time parents we knew what we were doing and should just get home to our older daughter. When we first got home I briefly wondered what I was thinking but it turned out fine :silly:

I stayed two nights with my second c section. I asked if I could go home early though. If I didn’t feel comfortable leaving I definitely would have stayed another day. I think it’s whatever you’re comfortable with!

@Mrsbells: less than 48 hours post RCS. I did not have a positive PP stay this time, and figured I’d be happier at home than in a hospital room with how little help I had. However, I was up and walking around (slowly!) 4 hours after surgery, had my catheter out 12 hours after, etc., so I felt well enough to manage my own care. I stayed 3 nights the first time and absolutely needed all 3 nights. Had the nurses actually been helpful with my daughter this go-around, I would have stayed an extra night for the rest!

I think it was 4-5 nights. I had severe pre-eclampsia that took 2-3 days to get under control. Also, my baby lost a massive amount of weight because I was breastfeeding and my milk hadn't come in. So she was started on formula I think somewhere between 24-48 post-birth. They almost kept her another day after they discharged me because they were so concerned about her weight loss, which was great. I'm glad they were so concerned. I've read horror stories of babies that have died due to dehydration and starvation because they were exclusively breastfed and mother's milk hadn't come in :( Everything turned out to be fine, but I was at a large university hospital, so they were really on top of her weight loss and my pre-eclampsia. I think I may have stayed an extra day than I needed to because I didn't want to leave the hospital without my baby :/

My insurance has approved up to 4 nights but the norm at the hospital here is to be discharged 3 days after your surgery. I had my c-section just after midnight on Saturday and was discharged on Tuesday.

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy!!!

With DD, I had an emergency c-section with severe complications. DD and I stayed in the hospital for a week. It was a town hospital in CT and, at the time, this particular institution had the option for my daughter to either stay in my room OR in the nursery. DD did both.

With DS, my c-section was precationary and planned. I had him on-post (ARMY Hospital) and DS roomed with me. I was told we were alotted 4 days in my room but since I was up and walking the halls and had made a small BM at 3 days, I was free to leave by that evening!

Two entirely different experiences...

With my first, it was one night, about 36 hours, but I had a midwife who did my follow-ups at home. With my second my hemoglobin count dropped super super low and I had to have an ultrasound and MRI which determined that I had internal bleeding so then I needed a blood transfusion, so I had to stay two nights. They were trying to keep me for a third but I threw a bit of a tantrum and they said if my count was increasing I could leave - again, midwives for follow-up.

2 days for an unplanned, but uncomplicated one. I’d just stay for the three days especially since you have other kids at home. :). It’s going to get a lot harder to heal and rest once you get there. I was in the hospital for 3 hours after my second was born and wish I had stayed for the day at least.

@Mrsbells: My delivering hospital policy is discharge 48 hours after c-section providing there are no complications and things are going as expected in recovery.
With my daughter she was admitted into the NICU so I was in the hospital for another week after her birth, but I was will discharged from post partum the second day and just moved down the hall to the NICU.

4 days after

Scheduled c-section Tuesday morning @ 7:30, discharged Saturday morning when my doctor finally came around. Admittedly I freaked out when the nurses said I was going to go home Friday morning because I was scared, didn't know what I was doing, typical first time mom fears... So I panicked/cried to my doctor that they were going to send me home and I wasn't ready, and he said I could stay another day.

Baby #3 arrived! For my previous csections I was told the earliest I could leave the hospital was 3 days after surgery. This time one of the doctors told me i could leave in 2 days if I want. Althought I don't love being in thehospital I don't feel ready to leave in 2 days and just wondered what other c section moms do
