Maybe a couple of weeks? She is only 11 weeks and she is fitting in 6m clothes! She was born 9lb 5oz and 21". It's gone by so fast now that I think about it. She was in NB briefly (she still wears some NB items.) she is currently wearing 3M clothes but anything I buy her (starting about a week ago) is 6m. She's 13.2lb right now. Some of her NB clothes did not fit when she was born. They were too small

@Pepper: The huge size difference between Carters newborn and 0-3 annoys me! C is almost 8 weeks and he's still in newborn.

Just thought I'd update my own thread :) LO was 7 lbs 9 oz at birth, and he is 4 weeks old and still in newborn! I think he's about 8 lbs 4 oz now. Carter's newborn onesies are tight on him, but 0-3 onesies are still so big. Babies R Us newborn stuff fits him really well. Can't wait til he sizes up, he has so many cute 0-3 outfits!

A long time. At least 10-12 weeks.

She was born at normal size (7 lbs) but grew very slowly. She pretty much stayed that size for quite a while.

@Foodnerd81: I agree with the side snaps, I might need to get a few more of those! I'm not sure if I should do sleepers or not... I'm afraid of him getting too warm! I was planning on diaper, onesie, swaddle for sleep, but I guess if he doesn't like the swaddle, a sleeper would work best. Ahh what do I know!! So hard to plan for stuff I have no experience with, haha ;)

@hergreenapples: My nephew was the same way-- he outgrew his footed sleepers because his feet were too big, but the next size up was huge everywhere else. She resorted to having his feet just sticking out and the footie part of the sleeper flapping off to the side-- it was a good look.

@pepper: I think I have the same plan-- have maybe 3 or 4 newborn outfits washed and ready to go, and maybe another 3 pack of sleepers with the tags on so I can return them if needed. As you know, LO is also due in July, so I'm thinking side snap top and diaper will be a popular outfit around the house, too. I don't love the idea of pulling something over that wobbly head anyway!

My doc estimated DS would be around 8lbs at birth. He was 9lbs 1oz and 21'' long. He wore newborn clothes for almost two months though, because he was so thin. They did start to get short, but the 0-3 were way too big in the waist. It will really depend not only the size, but shape of your baby. We had less than 10 newborn outfits and were fine.

Maybe a week or so. We didn't buy a lot of newborn clothes though. She never fit well into her newborn onesies that we bought her but she had a couple of sleepers that she could wear for a couple of weeks. We bought mostly 0-3 month clothes for when she was born so we didn't try really hard to put her in them though. She was 21 inches and 8lb 5oz at birth.

@Pepper: I can't remember exactly how long but I do remember using them much longer than we thought! He was born at 7lb 7oz, 21" and gained quickly but certain brands ran bigger and we were able to use them past the weight recommendations. We went through the 0-3 m super quickly since we used the NB so long.

@Foodnerd81: DS was estimated at 39w to be "barely 6 lbs" and long. He ended up being late, born 41w2d, and was 7lbs 7oz. The midwife just told me at my first prenatal appointment for this pregnancy that she was surprised how big DS was at birth. I think he grew a lot those last weeks because I sure did :)

I had heard the same thing when I was pregnant with DD, so I didnt buy any newborn clothes. Thank goodness we were gifted some because she swam in 0-3 for a while. In fact the outfit I took to the hospital was 0-3 and the pants would fall off when you picked her up. LOL She wasnt small either 7 lbs. 15 oz. and 20 1/2 in. long.

Was 7lbs 8oz and wore them for about 6w.
The footed ones were getting snug by 5w though.
I listened to people who said not to buy NB and so I only got 3/4outfits. Big mistake! I had to go out at 4 days PP and get about 12 NB outfits.
1- they go through outfits like crazy at the beginning (spit up)
2- I was too exhausted to wash laundry everyday
So we needed a good amount. I don't regret it. I can reuse them for other kids, sell them or loan them out to friends.

Are NB clothes different than 0-3 months? If so then I guess she's never been in NB. 0-3 was big on her though until about 2-3 weeks in when she reached 9 lbs. She was born at 7 lb 10, got down to 6 lb 14 but regained the weight in 3 days. Personally I don't think I would've bought more than 1-2 NB outfits or so...you'd maybe want something cute that fits correctly for photos.

Her feet though? We have socks for 3-6 months and they were too small at 3 weeks. The cute baby booties I brought for her to wear home from the hospital were never worn. ):
