I had 7 months at full pay and I accrued vacation days, but the governement only supports 3 months (Switzerland). I just had a generous employer and over 11 years of service.

I was required to go out 10 weeks before my due date, I had to get an exception to go out 6 weeks before.

I had 16 weeks paid leave at full salary. I could take up to one year of unpaid parental leave, but I ended up quitting to SAH.

Where I am living now in Austria by law parents have 1 year of parental leave. The mother is required to stop working 8 weeks before the due date. From what I understand, the parents can then split up the remaining 10 months between them, so for example the woman can take 9 months and the man 3. And I think it is at least at 80% salary.

I get 12 weeks paid and up to an additional 8 weeks unpaid. It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to go back to work though, so I guess the additional 8 weeks doesn't really mean anything since it's unpaid.

I have 52 weeks off. And since I stopped work 3 days before he was born I get pretty much his whole first year at home. I was supposed to have a couple weeks off before him but someone decided to come a bit early.

8 weeks with number 1, no idea what I'll do with 2! I have 2 weeks pto if I don't use any days at all (never gonna happen with a LO) through march...any more time ill get docked pay. If I had childcare that would take less than a six week old I would just go back to work!

@travellingbee: Ahh, the benefits of adoption. Don't get me wrong, it was a total blur, but more do-able than giving birth... Though I did feel like a million bucks once Lala was out of me that I was taking long walks and doing crazy outings 2 days post-partum.

With Ellie I had ten weeks. Would have been six, had it not been for needing a c-section, so in that sense I was very grateful for my birth. With Lorelei I was already at home and continued to do so. But I did stop substitute teaching and will start again when she starts preschool.

@Bookworm: I'll be shortest :)
With #1, I took 16 weeks and though it was hard to go back, I was pretty ready.
With #2, I only got 3 days and I had to scramble to get that! (I took a 4 week work from home hiatus in our low season several months later.
