DD tells us when she wants to go and she sometimes refuses to get off the potty so I leave her there. I check up on her and she tells me when she is ready to get off (about 5 minutes).

I only kept her on the potty for poop. She said she wanted to go, but was afraid so I had her sit while watching the iPad until she went.

For pee, she sat when she had to go.

We arent there yet, but 5 minutes seems more appropriate....i would be adraid that making them stay there would increase anxiety and make it even harder to go.

I'm lucky if she will stay on for 2 minutes if she doesn't want to! Her favorite is "I did pee pee!" even if it was over an hour ago. LOL its kinda ridiculously cute.
