@spaniellove: really sucks that people who haven't been there as long but work harder get laid off and the people who really should be fired but don't cuz they've worked there longer. He really sounds incompetent.

@spaniellove: I'd call and complain to your local PO that your carrier isn't picking up mail, and also letting them know that they're no longer at your address and you don't want any more mail from them. Anything that comes should get return to sender without the mail carrier making it more difficult for you.

@tequiero21: He can't even deliver mail to the right house...I had to complain several times to the local post office that I was getting mail for other people on my street and most likely my mail was going to random people!

Why the heck wouldn't your mailman take outgoing mail? No tip for Xmas!! I always cross out the address and write return. They take it.

You should be able to contact your postal service and tell them that the person no longer lives there and they should have a system to stop any of that mail...

like, 2-3 months tops. I'd start just tossing his mail and not returning his calls, if he calls you. Honestly its sort of weird he even talks to you guys. I would not want to have any sort of dialogue with the former owner of a house i live in.

I think it was about the 2 year mark in our house we stopped worrying about it.

I'm going to have a talk with DH tonight about not wasting our time sending stuff to the guy anymore. We have tried "Return to Sender" but our mailman never picks up outgoing mail and it's just not worth our time anymore...I can't believe after this long new things keep arriving. I'm still getting magazine subscriptions in his name!

I don't.

If it's junk mail, I throw it out. If it looks important, I write "Not at this address" and return it to sender.

It's the other person's responsibility to forward mail and change their address with their own accounts. Not mine.

That happens to us too. The previous owner lives in the same city, so they are forever wanting to stop by and get it. It is really annoying and now I'm doing return to sender. They need to change their address.

The previous occupant asked us to forward their mail and we did for 3 months and then we decided that was sufficient time for them to change their address wherever necessary. Also when we forwarded, we just stuck it back in the post with their new address on, so if there were any charges they would incur them when the mail was delivered.

We rarely get mail for the previous owner, who passed away (the house was sold by her estate). If it's junk, we just toss it but if it looks important we'll contact her son to find out if he wants/needs it. We've owned the house for 2.5 years and had to do this only 2-3 times, so we don't mind. In your situation, though, I'd just return the mail to the sender and let them deal with it.

@Greentea: I think when you sign up for mail forwarding it's only valid for a year and then they start delivering mail to your old address again.

@AmeliaBedilia: We tried doing that once and then realized the volume of mail we get for him is insane! Like at least once a week! Plus our mail carrier never picks up things we need to send out. (Actually we wrote "return to sender")

I've probably mentioned before, but we still get mail for our home's previous owner...two and a half years after moving in. This is the guy who I found out is driving by several times a year and parking in front of our house to look at it every time he comes up from FL!

He seems to expect us to send all this stuff to him - financial statements, city and county documents for his rental properties, etc. You'd think he'd care enough to change his freaking address for that stuff or continue his mail forwarding. We're tired of paying postage and dealing with this. Sure it's the nice thing to do but should we bother with this anymore?
