We never used the larger bottles but I would just skip the 4 ounces if you have 17 of the big ones!

If you have 17 I would just use 8 oz bottles, eventually you get there anyways. We only bought 8 oz, because by the time she took a bottle (4 1/2 months) she was taking 4 oz anyways and moved up to 6 not long after.

I'm skipping the smaller bottles since the larger ones have measurement tick marks.

You don't need 4 oz bottles if you already have plenty 8 oz bottles. Just use the larger bottles!

@DesertDreams88: @regberadaisy: You can pump into wide-neck bottles. I exclusively use Tommee Tippee bottles, which have a wide neck. You just have buy a pump adapter.

ETA: To answer your original question, you don't need any smaller bottles. I don't plan to even get ours out this time, if we even still have them.

I only ever used 5 ounce bottles. He only would drink between 4-5 ounces of BM at a time. i had six bottles total.

I agree, with PP, if we ever have another child, I would just stick with the 8 oz bottles. Once LO drank more than 4 oz at a time, we never used the 4 oz bottles again.

I wouldn't register for any with 17 8 oz. bottles. DS started drinking more than 4 ounces in one feeding when he was 3 months old. If you really wanted some though I think 8 is a good number.

I wouldn't buy any if I had 17 8oz! That's easily a set for the day to pump into and a set for daycare, probably two sets of each. Standard neck bottles can attach directly to the PISA and a few other pumps. There's no reason you have to use a smaller bottle.

@DesertDreams88: I only have standard bottles so I'm assuming wide next means the opening is bigger? Then the wide ones won't work for pumping into them.

I'm sticking with plastic bottles - I'm too clumsy.
As for pumping directly into them, do standard neck vs. wide neck matter, @regberadaisy? All of the 8oz are standard neck.

We just use all 8 oz. It's a little less convenient, but they were free.

~12. When LO starts daycare, chances are s/he will take 3-4 bottles while at daycare. You are able to pump into Dr Brown bottles if you're using Medela PISA or Ameda Purely Yours. I highly suggest this to cut down on bottle washing! So that's at least another 4-6 bottles, depending on how often you plan to pump at work and how much you can pump. Add an extra days worth of bottles, so you don't have to wash every single night, if you don't want to. I love Dr Brown bottles but there are a lot of parts!

4-8? Are they plastic or glass? I have glass dr Browns in both sizes and I use my plastic Medelas more because they are what I pump into. I wanted to use glass initially but it's 2x the dishes.

A friend gave me seventeen 8oz Dr. Brown bottles. How many 4oz bottles should I register for, though?

Here's my feeding/childcare situation:
0-3mo: Hopefully mostly breastfed; maybe a bottle here and there
4-5mo: Childcare for 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, hopefully all pumped BM
6-7mo: Home again with me, hopefully mostly breastfed; maybe a bottle here and there, starting to try solids,
7mo and on: Childcare for 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, hopefully all pumped BM but want to start moving more to solids because pumping as a teacher is going to get complicated.
