Insurance reimbursed me for the car seat, and I bought a Graco SlimFit for my mom's car and moved her NextFit into my car. About a year later, someone hit my new car (not totaled, thank goodness), and insurance again reimbursed me for the car seat. I bought a Safety1st Grow and Go EX Air for my car. So now we have one Chicco, one Graco, and one Safety1st.</p> <p>Both of the replacement seats were chosen at least partially because I found good sales (discontinued colors, car seat trade in events, etc.), but I like both of them better than the (more expensive) NextFit. I didn't have any complaints about it when it was the only seat we had, but now I realize just how HEAVY it is, and the high sides made it more challenging to get LO in and out, particularly in my sedan. Plus, both of the cheaper seats have higher rear-facing weight limits! But we’re in a city so rely on cabs and Uber’s a ton.</p> <p>4.5yo has a chicco myfit harness booster in our car. We also have a britax harnessed booster (forget what it’s called, frontier???) in my in-laws but the only reason we got something a little more expensive was because we needed it to be a super easy seatbelt install. It is a no brainer for them.<br /> We also just got him the Ride Safer Vest for travel which I am super psyched to try out on a trip next week. No more lugging a seat for him. </p> <p>For my 11mo he’s still in a bucket - the Nuna Pipa which I got 50% off in a Black Friday sale. We are able to use it with base in our car or with seatbelt in cabs/Uber’s/rentals.<br /> When he outgrows he will use the chicco nextfit that was my older sons before booster in our car. </p> <p>For travel convertible seat we have a Safety1st which we got cheap at Walmart. I like that it still has some of the cushy features of a more expensive seat but it’s still a good deal. And she is the absolute expert on car seat safety. Mil bought a maxi cosi a long time ago to have in her car for when we visit but it’s a total waste since she keeps in off-site storage now that she moved to an apt so when we visit the girls just go in our car. However, we bought cheaper seats to have in my parent's car. My thought is that they aren't in those cars much and for mainly short distances. As people have said above, they have to pass the same safety tests but they just might not be as comfortable for a long trip. We did that because they are our very lightweight travel seats and didn’t make sense to have 3 full sets. They are only in that car maybe 1-2x/week but I still feel guilty that they aren’t as “nice”. We also FF’d DD1 earlier (okay she was 3) in that seat because we couldn’t find an extended RF light travel seat so I felt guilty there. She kept RF until last 4 in our main kid car. So 🤷‍♀️ I just lived with the guilt because it was somewhat illogical and made the most sense! The safest seat is the one that fits your child, the vehicle, and is installed correctly. We bought a cheap Cosco seat when we went on a trip last year, and it stays at my parents’ house. It doesn’t seem as comfortable, but it’s fine for the short amount of time it’s used. </p>
