She was a gift (really, a rescue dog) from an ex bf. She died when she was only 4 years old though. She was hit by a car (got out of a family friends yard) when I was a toddler<br /> Beau - Chesapeake bay retriever. He was the dog of 90% of my childhood (age 2 to 16). Such a tolerant animal!<br /> Rosaline - Chocolate lab. My parents bought her a few months after Beau died, she only lived to age 9 because she got aggressive mammary cancer.<br /> Charlie - My Newfoundland dog, I got him after I finished nursing school, he is my first dog of my own, and he is such a cuddly sweetie!</p> <p>The cats:<br /> Boots - As kids, we found him as a stray and keep sneaking him food. When he got trapped by animal services we begged my Mom to adopt him. He was the best cat ever to live. Lived with us from age 10 to ago 17 when he passed away.<br /> Spooky - A kitten that was dumped in our back alley. She lived 2 years, when she passed away after having a little of kittens from a uterine infection.<br /> Einstein - One of Spooky's kittens. He lived with us for a couple years, until my Grandma needed company and we gave him to her.<br /> Dalmy - She got dumped on us by a family member. She was pretty evil for the first few years, but got really snuggly and sweet in her old age. She lived with us from age 7 to age 12 when she passed away.<br /> Mikka - I adopted him during university, he is still living with me. My parents let me name him--I was six years old. :)</p> <p>We got two more cats eventually, Ginger and Lacey. </p> <p>In fifth grade, we got two dogs, Lady and Gypsy. All of my childhood pets are gone now.</p> <p>In 2007 my ex-fiance surprised me with a kitten who we named Pippin. We broke up like three weeks later and I'm so glad he tried to "save" our relationship with Pippin because I love that cat!</p> <p>In 2009 my now-husband and I adopted a lady friend for Pippin, named Luna. </p> <p>My parents had two dogs when I was born, but I don't remember them, so they don't count. So my total is 7.</p> <p>No pet thread is complete without photos! The first is me with Lacey when she was a kitten. Then, the best picture ever taken of Pippin. Total sweetheart. I loved her. Died when I was 8.</p> <p>Patches &amp; Lady - Himalayan cats we adopted together about a year after Birdie died. Lady was the mama, Patches was her little kitten. Patches grew up to be the MEANEST cat ever, omg, what a bad attitude. Lady was a total sweetheart, though! I still miss that cat :( Patches ran away when she was 4 or 5, and our neighbors found her poor mangled body in their yard a week or so later, likely the victim of some wild animal. Lady was attacked by some jerkface's dog ON OUR FRONT PORCH and I unfortunately saw the whole thing. I was home alone so I had to beg my neighbor for a ride to the vet, I was still wearing pajamas. Ugh, it was horrible. Obey leash laws people!!!!</p> <p>Rags the dog-got her when I was 13. For his birthday one year, my little brother decided that instead of gifts he wanted his friends to bring a bag of dog or cat food to donate to the animal shelter. Well, when we dropped it off there was the cutest puppy with the saddest story (found with the rest of the litter in a dumpster behind the grocery store) so we just had to take her home!! She looks like some sort of poodle/terrier mix. Pretty small, long, and lean, and loves to bark and herd things. She is still alive, but now has no teeth and is completely deaf at 15 years old.</p> <p>Winston the dog-parents got him in 2003. Sweetest little dog, poodle/shih tzu mix. Also adopted from the shelter. I love this little guy so much. Also still alive. He is the best cuddle buddy in the world.</p> <p>Bumper the cat-technically my landlady's cat, but he is super friendly and DH loves him like nobody's business (and I kinda do, too). He comes and hangs out with us every day, sometimes for 10 minutes, other times he'll sleep on our couch and take naps with us and stuff. He is a pretty awesome cat, especially since I don't have to take care of his litter box and feed him! All the benefits, none of the costs. She ate everything.</p> <p>Sebastian - A dalmatien mix that passed away at age 13 from heat stroke (his second). He was great though, very protective of all of us. He was a surprise for me since I wanted a dog and he was named after the character in The Little Mermaid (I was 4).</p> <p>Pooh - A golden retriever mix who passed away at age 13 from arthritis that developed from her depression/refusal to eat for a while after Sebastian died. She was terrified of everything but loved having fun. Sebastian was her best friend and caretaker. If they were outside and it rained, he would let her be closest to the door on the porch and he'd get rained on.</p> <p>Kasper - My long awaited cat that passed away at age 14 maybe? He was a gray persian mix and was very large (22 lbs). He was meant for me but bonded more with my parents, although I still played with him.</p> <p>Andi - She was a little poodle that we took in after my grandma died. She lived to be either 18 or 19 and fought through a ton of health problems all while still being happy.</p> <p>Milo - Our current cat, a grayish brown tabby. He's 5 years old and I absolutely love this cat. He is super affectionate and playful. He also stayed by my side the entire night before I went into labor and loves LO.</p> <p>Timmy - Our current dog, a 6 year old puggle. He's super clingy but very loving and a great guard dog. She lived 17 years and was the best dog ever. </p> <p>Snoopy &amp; Lucy- some sort of Terrior mix. These were also Humane Society rescues. They were from the same litter and loved each other so much. It was fun watching them play. </p> <p>Sam- Glenn of Imaal puppy mill rescue. Strangest dog ever, very high needs. Spent entire first part of his life in a tiny cage. Not sure of his age, but the vet is amazed he is still alive. My mom contributes his apparent longevity to Sam's daily dose of coffee and cream. Sam lives with my parents.</p> <p>Muffler-a stray cat my brothers and I took in one Christmas eve after finding him outside. My dad is super allergic to cats so we hid her for 2 weeks while my unsuspecting Dad walked around miserable. After a couple weeks my Dad found out and we had to give the cat to my Aunt and Uncle. </p> <p>Harvey-humane society Dog, he might be a cockapoo or maybe some Italian greyhound in him. Meh is a nanny dog and loves our LO.</p> <p>Greta- another humane society dog, maybe a labor doodle? She's full of energy! People always stop to ask what breed she is because she's so interesting looking.</p> <p>Polly- tiny cat. We had to put him to sleep when I was seven, and I still cry when I think about it.<br /> - Zeke, a yellow lab. When Boscoe went missing once, we went to the pound to look for him and ended up bringing home Zeke. Then Boscoe came back, so we had two dogs.<br /> - Moose, a chihuahua that my parents bought for me after Boscoe died. He was a terror and I wasn't a fan.<br /> - Jake, a flat coated retriever. Best dog ever.<br /> - Smokey, a grey pound cat. I'm not a cat person, but that was an awesome cat.<br /> - Two bulldog puppies we found on the side of the road and kept for a month until we could find homes for them. I can't remember what we named them.<br /> - Sweet Pea, a shih zhu that we got from the pound. We didn't have her for too long.<br /> * Yochan - our first Yorkshire terrier and the first dog I ever truly loved. Named after a dog my mom had as a kid.<br /> * Chester - Yochan's gentleman friend.<br /> * Dozens of dogs that Yochan bore - We raised litters growing up<br /> * Gabriella - The Yorkie we got after Yochan died. I hated her. Nobody can ever replace your first love.<br /> * Smokey the cat - Bee brought her to New York when she moved in. She is a good looking cat, but kind of mean. The Regina George of cats.<br /> * Sparky the cat - Smokey's sister, Bee brought her to New York when she got cancer. She was the first animal to make me feel the way that I felt about Yochan (except she wasn't mine, she was Bee's). She had a pure heart of gold and I think about her all the time. I suggested we use Sparky's name somewhere in Olive's name, but that didn't go over so well.</p> <p>So that's six dogs and cats that I have been close to... plus a few dozens that I raised from puppies.</p> <p>How many cats and dogs have you had in your life? </p>
