We clearly have too many. But we also dress the bed so there is a mattress pad, crib sheet, mattress pad, and crib sheet to help if there are any middle of the night issues. But they had no pattern and I saw some REALLY cute ones at target so I bought them and now we have 5. I think we'd be fine 2, definitely don't need more than 3 for home. We started out doing what @Boogs: does, but we never had an emergency situation so I stopped. Only once or twice have we needed to change the sheets ASAP. But if you have spitters/diaper leakers, then I'd double layer each crib and have another 2 on hand. </p>
