@lilteacherbee: I never even thought of having gifts from us AND Santa. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea though. I've always wondered how I would broach the subject if LO ever asked why some kids got more gifts than others. Maybe we will just label a few from Santa and the rest from mommy and daddy.

LO was only 15 months last year at Christmas, so we did 1 from DH and me. My parents go overboard for sure and we have a large family. This year, he'll be 2, so we'll likely get him 2 or 3 small gifts from us or one bigger one.

@Ra: I feel the same way. My parents always went nuts on me. Like 30+ presents, and I'm not a spoiled or ungrateful person at all. In fact, I would be 100% okay with never getting a Christmas present again!

Sadie will probably get 20-25. From us, 7 or 8: her 4 "want, need, wear, read" gifts, a kitchen and food from Santa (not wrapped), and then one gift for her gift hunt. Plus her stocking! My parents and IL's get her at least 5 each. Then there's great grandma, aunts, uncles, etc.! Last year was nuts, but she loved it. She will get even more excited this year!

I was thinking of doing the want, need, wear, read thing (I did that last year but actually only ended up getting her read and need lol), but I don't think the categories really work for us. I got her a sticker book, board book, and a doll so far and plan on getting one other thing if I can find something else, but I tend to just use clothes right away haha. My mom will buy her lots of gifts, so I wanted to keep it minimal from us.

@lilteacherbee: Its much easier for me to have them all be from Santa that way I don't need to remember which gift was from me and which was from him and who gives better gifts, me or santa? to much pressure - LOL

So everything is from Santa!

Last year, LO was only 6 weeks old, so this is new for us. Those of you who do Santa, do you also give gifts from yourself? As far as I can remember, when my parents did Santa, all of the presents were from him, not them. I would like to do both.

LO is the first/only grandchild on both sides, so I'm sure he will be getting a ton of stuff from my parents, in-laws, and my sister. He'll also get gifts from our aunts/uncles.

I put 36+. Cause she will get so much. I have a big family and they will all get her something. My parents and sister will get her 2-3 things. Grandma will get her 4-5 small things. Then we will get her a kitchen and wrap up other stuff. Then the ILs will get her a ton. They don't buy for us, one small gift, so they go overboard on the gifts for the grandkids.

I put 8-14. We spent most of our christmas budget for lo on a climber for the backyard this month...he is still so young that i doubt he will notice, and i know he will get plenty from his grandparents. I would imagine he will get 3-4 items from each set of grandparents, maybe one from his uncle and another from his aunt, and 3-4 little things from us. I feel like that is plenty for a 1 year old! Although as it gets closer I know i am going to want to buy him all the things! Having a tight budget will help with that for sure :)

Luckily, our parents don't go nuts. My parents get him one or two gifts and my ILs get him one or two plus a stocking. If people give him gifts early or send them in the mail, we open them early. My husband doesn't like this, but I do because it's way less overwhelming. If Liam is opening gift after gift he gets tired and cranky and just wants to play with his stuff instead of opening more. We get him 4-5 gifts usually, plus a stocking.

I don't want to even think about how many gifts they will get from my in laws. Last year I had about 20 gifts to open and I'm an adult! I imagine it will be a little crazy.

My in-laws go NUTS. It frustrates me a little, but that's an entirely different story.

We usually get 3 or 4 gifts for the kids to unwrap. Usually one from us, and two or 3 from Santa. + stockings. We also do 2 "family" gifts from santa so they get to open those too.

@mrs. Lemon-lime I think needs are things like bedding, travel accessories (suitcase, backpack)... Just something to unwrap that you would need to get regardless at some point. I think it could also be unfun clothes like basics or Pjs or undies. As far as a toy, it could be a toy that is age appropriate for development? I like the idea of having a guideline for the amount of gifts as a tradition into adulthood.
