The one we go to has a climbing structure with several places where small children could fall (e.g., tall fire pole, climbing wall). I'd be comfortable supervising 3, possibly 4 older children there, but under age 4, probably only 1. I think I could mange 2, but it would make me pretty anxious. It wasn't that hard. The older the kids are, the more of them I could handle. The daycare where I used to work would put me with 12 four year olds at a time by myself. It was all enclosed, but that was a lot. I know I missed certain things. The older the kid, the more I could watch. I use to have playground duty at school after lunch when I worked in an elementary school and it was like, 2 teachers for 60 kids. I've taken my 2 (one is chilling with me in stroller) plus 3 of my nieces. At our enclosed park I felt comfortable. However, one of my nieces is 8 and she was helping the younger ones. They are almost 15 months and have no fear. Also, I have to spend most of the time keeping Blake from eating wood chips/dirt/bugs. It's an advanced twin diversionary technique where I turn around to clean dirt out of his mouth and Alice tries to scale the climbing wall or run up the slide the wrong way. They like to keep me on my toes. We've been watching a friend's kid afterschool though, and I find myself worrying about her getting lost or hurt! I guess I dread having to tell her parents that something happened to her on my watch!</p> <p>So for me, 3 is probably my limit at most of our local playgrounds. There's some totally enclosed playgrounds though where I could watch 5-6 kids no problem.</p> <p>How many kids do you feel you could safely supervise at the playground? </p>
