just wanted to say that this is a really inspiring thread!

will think about it when I'm on the treadmill at the gym this week...

I just signed up for the gym a few days ago after 2 years of being pregnant :) prior to babies I could only run about 3 miles, and currently only .5 mile without walking.

@Mrs. Pen: I'm so happy you're happy! I hope you continue to find joy in it! (it's so darn empowering . . . especially if you believed for years and years that you just couldn't run . . . .I know I did!).

True story . . . I didn't know that I could run until I was in my 20's. After I hopped on a treadmill, a really good looking guy hopped on a treadmill directly opposite me, and I was too embarrassed to start walking after a few minutes . . . so I just kept running . . . 30 minutes later, I had run more than 3 miles, and I was so darn shocked! :P

@Mrs. Pen: check out Jeff Galloway's walk-run programs. Easier on the body and it helps you from getting discouraged. I love it!

@Mrs. Pen: good job on the mile! I've been missing running so much. Did cross country and track in high school, and I've always enjoyed running (hate treadmills though, gotta be outside!). I injured my knee (someone accidentally kicked me) and by the time I recovered I was pregnant. Literally ran twice before getting pregnant again. I swear, after this pregnancy I'm loading these kiddos up in the stroller and running every day! :)

I hate running. HATE it. I wish I liked it- it'd be a lot cheaper and easier than the other forms of exercise I actually like. I could probably run a very slow mile without stopping now, but it wouldn't be pretty. I'm doing the couch-to-5K program on the treadmill at my office gym a couple times a week in the hopes of building my endurance. I really want to run a 5K this summer and do it without stopping, no matter how slow I have to go.

In my mind, I can run 5-6 miles (did 8 every Saturday morning with my mom friends before we moved) but i haven't run in about 3 months (damn winter) so it's probably more like 1-2 today!

Right now I can do 6 without stopping. I'm signed up for a half marathon in May, so I'm working my way up to 10 mile long runs... and relying on race adrenaline to take me the additional 3.1 miles :) I run 4 miles 3x a week, with a long run on Sunday.

Before I started running, I couldn't run for 2 minutes without feeling like I was going to pass out and croak. It was a slow process, but if you set goals and stick to your gradual training, you can definitely do it!

Post pregnancy: I just started to do some zumba last week (9 weeks post pregnancy) and I'm winded and piddle myself everytime I jump. I'm afraid to run and find out if a fountain of pee will be coming down my legs....

Before I was pregnant, I ran 5 consecutive miles at a time, every 2-3 days. So around 15 a week. During the summer, I was up to 8 miles for a run since I was training for a half.

I ran 13.1 for a half before but that was 4 years ago!

@Mrs. Pen: That is AWESOME!!! WOOT! And yeah, speed totally doesn't matter! How does the saying go . . . it doesn't matter how slow you go, you're still lapping everyone on the couch . . . ! I think at my *fastest*, which wasn't very fast, I was only averaging an 8 minute mile pace (for distances).

If you forced me out on a track, I would do like 1 lap.

Oh, it wouldn't be a run, it would be a jog.

Albeit at 4.5 mph, but I did it without stopping and I'm so happy. That's my new goal is at least one mile every gym day.

Before babies I was running half marathons and doing a long run of 10 miles pretty regularly.

After LO #1 I was just starting to get back into running again and could run 1 miserable mile straight...then I got pregnant with DD.

Now I can run 4 miles without stopping by myself. The most I've gone with the jogging stroller (and both of my little sidekicks) is a little over 2. I'm starting a half marathon training plan on Monday!

Running is seriously my stress relief. It has been for a long time and I REALLY missed it during my pregnant years. And my husband missed his non-tense wife lol.

My husband and I ran our first marathon last year. Training was hard and took a lot of time, especially when you have little ones. Not sure if I'd do another marathon again - maybe the NYC one. I'd happily do more half marathons though. I'm not naturally a runner and only get that runner's high for short periods on my runs. But I do enjoy running now because it's one of the few moments where I'm left with just my thoughts. I started out running with a moms group. That helped me to get started.

I've run our Philadelphia Broad Street Run in the past which is 10 miles, but fell off the running bandwagon for a while. I'm starting to get back into it and had a 4 mile run last week. Yesterday I ran 3.5.

@Zbug: Do you mean in a jogger? LO was 10 months when I was able to run with him (my own endurance), but I think the BOB stroller recommendation is 8 months or older. I just wasn't ready yet

13.1. I completed my 3rd half marathon at 6w pregnant. Now, at 16w I'm down to 3 mile stretches before I must pee!

Even if you think you hate it, I really believe you can learn to love running. I went from running less than a mile and being terribly out of shape to running a half marathon in 4 months. I set myself to a schedule and learned to tough it out mentally. It really is wonderful therapy and decompression time.
