He's naps 3x a day - anywhere from. An hour to 1.5 the first time, 2 hrs the 2nd and the last one is flux depending on what we're doing. He wakes up 2-3 times at night. I'm thinking its time to try to shift his last nap so he goes to bed eariler/easier.

Ugh! This week he seems to be going for only 1 long afternoon nap of 2-4 hours at 12 months. I had hope reading about Olive going to one nap at 15 months, w would have more time, but it looks like Cam isn't following that pattern :( I miss the 2 nap days!!

Of course with this nap change, his night sleep has gone to crap too. He had been sick a lot lately, so I'm hoping it gets better soon.

@MerryC: the 90 minute thing is new...just in the past week or so, before we started nap training. He was going 2 hours between before that, but would also only nap for 20 minutes in my arms, and was cranky a lot.

So he just woke up...3 hours later. I think that's the longest nap he's ever taken. I was concerned about the brevity of his naps, and by the end was getting concerned about how long it was lasting...moms can't win!

I was going to write this same post! They still take 4 naps a day at 6 months...anywhere between 30 and 90 min.

My kids still kind of prefer a 90min awake cycle, but i'm trying to encourage them to extend to 2 hrs or so, and then 3 hours before bed. I find if they stay awake longer, they will usually extend some naps, but not all, and they can fall asleep faster. I often have to actively try to keep them awake by going shopping or using the jumper at home. For the last 3 hr wake time it can be a job, but it's usually only like 15 minof getting them over the hump, and then they are good til bedtime.

My LO took 30 minute naps from 4-6 months regardless of what I did. I tried everything. He basically just grew out of it over time and once he started napping a little longer, he could stay awake longer. At right around 6 months his awake time stretched to 2 hours. It kept getting a little longer and now at 8.5 months we have 2 naps and his awake time is 2 hrs, then 3, then 4. It can be a little rough if he wakes from his afternoon nap too early, but I'm so over the 3rd nap because he fights it and wakes up cranky anyways.

My LO is about 6.5 months old and for a couple of weeks around 6 months she was taking like 5-6 naps a day. Now she seems to do anywhere from 2-4 depending on the length of the nap and what we've done that day. It doesn't affect her sleep at night when she naps more and she still seems happy though. I assumed maybe it was a growth spurt? Also, after all the naps, she's been coming through with milestones so I figured she may have been tired from trying to figure those out too.

I think that at that age, they should be able to consolidate sleep into 2-3 naps without changing night sleep. Maybe try getting him through the 30-45 minute wake up to extend his naps.

The past several days E has averaged being awake 90 minutes between naps and napping for only about 1/2 hour each time. I've tried stretching his awake time out a little more, but like clockwork he'll start rubbing his eyes and refusing to do anything except lie on the floor and get increasingly cranky. Right now we're averaging 5-6 naps a day.

He's nearing 6 months old, is this behavior normal? Should I be concerned or just go with it? He's been sleeping great at night--I usually get 11-12 hours, with 1-2 wakeups.

ETA: I'm almost certain he's started teething again...do you think they're connected?
