I've got 3 nursing tanks and definitely need to get some more. Now that I'm 3.5 weeks post partum I figure my breasts are pretty settled size-wise so I can get actual bras.
2 of my tanks are from Target and they are ok, but not great. They seem more like sleep tanks than out-and-about ones. My other tank is from Glamour Mom. SO AWESOME! It's got a built in bra and seems industrial strength which is great for the well-endowed and has good coverage for in-public nursing. I highly recommend and will be buying a few more. It was so hard to find stuff since I'm large-chested, but a friend recommended these and I'm definitely a fan.
Here's the link to tank on the US site, but they also have a UK one (hooray!)

I have 6 because I got these cheapo Walmart bra's (of all places) that came 2/pack for $12. They are the only nursing bras that didn't itch or dig into me at an odd place, so I wanted to stock up a little.

@milkteaandpolkadots: I have one from target, I like it because I am tall so it fits well. I also have the seamless tanks from motherhood and I love those so much!

@miss-spunkin: what brand of tanks do you have and recommend? I've only tried the Target brand ones and they're much too big in the torso even though the boobs fit. :(

I have two nursing bras and three tanks. The tanks are my favorite; I have two spandex-type tanks and one cotton. It's nice because when i nurse I don't have to expose my whole stomach (which is still very post-baby and I'm self-conscious about!). And I sleep in the tanks as well.
Then the bras are a stretchy smooth material, which is a mist because breast size fluctuates so much. If I go four hrs between feedings at night, my breasts are huge and need the extra room, but they shrink 1-2 cup sizes after a feeding. So I agree that padded bras would be a nuisance.

I leak like crazy! I am 4.5 weeks post partum and still leak significantly. I have about 5 pairs of cotton breast pads and I will soak through them all in one day. But they could easily be worn in regular bras.

Since I'm not working I feel I need more nursing bras/tanks so I think I will get a few more since I wash my tanks about every other day.

I had 2. But one had underwires and was too uncomfortable. The other was more like a push up bra...also not easy! I ended up buying 3 that are like sports bras. I love them! They were only $20 each at motherhood and its worth it to skip as much laundry. Lol. Also these keep the pads in place okay.

3 nursing bras (although I never wear one, it doesn't fit great) and 2 nursing tanks (although I can't find one right now) Hmmm, I need to work on this!

I have one Bravado nursing bra and one Bravadi nursing tank. I haven't really used the tank yet since I'm on leave still but I hand wash my bra at night when I shower and it dries overnight. I wear my Medela sleep bra to sleep to keep nursing pads in place since I tend to leak still. Regular wireless bras also worked fine for me since I can just pull the strap down.

I'd recommend 2 nursing bras though - some days I get so lazy and a second bra would make life easier.

i had 2 nursing tanks, and just 1 nursing bra. i just wear regular bras too.

I had 3. I used pads but the milk went right through it. And also, nursing didn't work out for me, so I wouldn't buy too many until you do it and know you'll stick with it.

I had 3 bras and a few tanks. Most of them were from Target. Truthfully, I only really wore them during my maternity leave. Once we had nursing down pat, I wore regular bras that I could pull down (again from target bc I knew I was going to stretch them out) or the nursing bras with regular clothes that were easy to nurse in. I still wear the tanks to bed sometimes just bc theyre comfy. So yeah you can get away with just two plus some tanks.

PS - one of mine is a padded nursing bra and I DESPISE it. I bought it figuring Id wear it to work because after I pump I didnt want my sipples showing through my clothes. Well the damn thing is hard to fold down and keep down while pumping (let alone while nursing) so I gave up on that one and just used a lined regular bra.

ETA - After about the first two weeks, I didnt leak at all, so I didnt need to cycle through bras because of that. If you are leaking, you might need more. But like someone else said, Id start with a few to see if everything works out for you, then increase based on your need.

I'm a cheapskate and I'm not afraid to admit it. I'm wondering how many nursing bras or tanks you invested in. I know I will need a couple bras but I'm wondering if it's possible to get away with just two if you have pads and leak catchers always in them?
